Delhi police may ask graduate constables to investigate cases
NEW DELHI: To maintain proper law and order in the city, there are possibilities of increasing investigating officers (IOS) in the police stations which will include constabulary rank personnel. Sources claimed that the Delhi Police headquarters recently asked the districts and units to submit the numbers of constables and head constables who are posted with them having educational qualification of graduate level. More than 2,000 lower rank personnel made to the list.
Police sources told Millennium Post that every day several cases been registered with city police which includes street crime and it needs to be solved so the lower rank personnel will either help the investigating officer in the case or he will be made IO of the incident. It will help in solving cases quickly.
“They will be given proper training about the investigation and after the completion, they will first handle cases related to street crime,” said the police source.
Sources claimed that the report which was sought by the police headquarters from districts was regarding deployment of graduate constables and head constables (including assistant sub-inspector) (Male) for the constitutions of investigation teams in the respective districts/units. “From the district and units, it was found that there are around 2,208 graduate constables and head constables,” sources added. The list also includes the number of graduate sub-inspector and assistant sub-inspector which was around 1,104. Sources claimed that in the meetings the following proposal has been discussed between senior cops in the city police.
The highest number of graduate is in Rohini which is around 312 whereas South district has 309 graduate policemen. The list also includes personnel from Crime Branch, EOW, Railways, Metro, Airport. Sources claimed that there are chances that IOS in the police stations will increase at the end of this year. There are several projects running in city police regarding the investigation.
In the year 2017, Police had started a pilot project in which a special team only dealing with the investigation of cases instead of the day to day activity. “This project has been started in districts, the team will only focus on the investigation. They will not be the part of the day to day law and order activity,” said a police source.
