300 cases registered under Copyright Act since 2016

NEW DELHI: Piracy has been one of the major problems in the city so far, even after giving the genuine price for products or commoditie­s like food or water to the consumer. There are possibilit­ies that the Delhiites are getting fake items as there are more than 300 cases which are registered with Delhi Police under Copyright Act since 2016. The law enforcemen­t agency claimed that they have nabbed 308 persons in this regard.

Meanwhile, the investigat­ing agency cracked more than 190 cases. The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post claimed that in the year 2018, 84 cases were reported till September, whereas in the year 2017, around 115 cases took place. Around 159 cases took place in the year of 2016. After registerin­g the complaints, a detail investigat­ion was done and in many cases raids were conducted which led to the arrest of 308 persons (2016145, 2017-113 and 2018-50 accused) in two and a half year.

The data further claimed that in the year 2018, around 27 cases were solved whereas in last year police solved 72 cases and in the year 2016, the investigat­ing agency cracked 96 cases. Police claimed that there are several cases where the accused sold fake products in the name of an original brand.

Recently, in Dwarka, two men were arrested for selling spurious water in fake Bisleri bottles. The complainan­t claimed that the fake goods are being sold to several innocent customers who are being cheated by various retailers in buying product considerin­g as genuine. Through this unlawful activity, the accused are risking the lives of several customers. In another case, a complaint was filed at East District office on April 27 regarding the infringing of the Copyright Act and trademark of HP company.
