POST SNATCHING, THESE TWO WENT FOR VACATION IN GOA, MUMBAI

Two of gang members held with a pistol, 17 live cartridges, 10 high-end mobiles

NEW DELHI: After committing snatching for months, a gang used to go for vacation to tourist spots but their lavish lifestyle came to an end after two of the members were arrested from Central Delhi area. Police claimed that in a day, the accused used to commit more than five cases of snatching in different parts of Capital.

According to police, the accused identified as Mohammad Nadir (22) and Rizwan (22) targeted high-end phones in the busy areas in National Capital and used the motorcycle for committing the crime. They were desperate criminals as they used to keep a pistol with them. “A loaded country-made pistol with 17 live cartridges (.315 bore) and 10 high-end mobile phones were recovered from them,” said police officer.

The arrest was made near Shankar Gali at Turkman Gate by the team formed under the supervisio­n of Geetanjali Khandelwal, ACP (Darya Ganj). Additional Deputy Commission­er of Police (Central) Amit Sharma claimed that during interrogat­ion, the accused persons admitted that they committed a number of robberies, snatchings, thefts in different areas of Delhi and NCR. They also stole motorcycle­s to commit the crime and after crime, they left the motorcycle in abandoned places. They used to carry a weapon. Out of 10 mobile phones recovered

from their possession, five have been linked to five cases of snatching/theft. The arrest was made by the team led by inspector Rajeev Gunwant Sho/chandni Mahal consist-

Police claimed that from the illegal money which they obtained after committing the crime, the accused used to go for vacation in Goa, Mumbai and other tourist places. In a day, they used to target more than five persons having high-end phones. “A thorough investigat­ion is underway to unearth the source of the illegal firearm and live cartridges recovered from their possession and to connect the remaining mobile phones," said the police officer.

Snatching has been one of the major street crimes in the city. The Delhi Police data claimed that in the year 2018 till August, 4,411 cases have been reported whereas last year 8,231 came to police. The further analysis of data revealed that in the current year 2,239 cases were solved whereas last year, 4,576 cases were cracked by different districts
