NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police has arrested six persons for robbing a former High Court judge's family in South East Delhi's New Friends Colony. Police said that the domestic help hired recently masterminded the robbery plot. Police said the domestic help, Sandeep, was hired by the family about four days ago.

DCP Southeast Chinmoy Biswal said, “The verification of the domestic help Sandeep was not done and was hired just four days back of the incident.”

According to police, the incident took place around 11 pm on Monday, when the late judge's wife Reba Kapoor (75) and her daughter Shibby Kapoor (40) were at home. Police said Shibby heard a noise from an adjacent room, and got alarmed. However, when the woman came out of her room, she found some unknown men in the room. Before she could raise an alarm, she was pushed and threatened not to shout by the intruders. She tried to resist but one of them hit her with a rod, and she suffered an injury in the neck. They also slapped her mother.

Shibby told police that after the attack, they locked her and her mother inside a room and broke open the lockers to steal cash and jewellery, worth about Rs 15 lakh. The woman somehow alerted the police after some time when the accused left. Subsequently, a team from the local police station reached the spot and rushed Shibby to AIIMS trauma centre, from where she was later discharged.

Police said Sandeep has let his associates enter the house, and masterminded the robbery plot before taking up the servant's job. Police are now trying to ascertain if the gang is involved in other similar cases. All of the six accused including Sandeep have been arrested from Jharkhand.

The accused have been identified as Sandeep (25), resident of Giridih, Jharkhand, Dinesh also from Jharkhand, Dheerender (from Jharkhand), Upender Rai, Ram Swaroop, Jamhui, Bihar, Deepak, Giridih, Jharkhand.
