GURUGRAM: Several measures are being taken to make Gurugram police digitally enhanced. Yet, the inability of the officials to deal with the challenges are making all the steps less useful for the citizens. To begin with, the process of filing FIR through the online platform was introduced around three years ago by the Haryana Government.

However, there are a large number of complaints that how the complaint is not getting registered and ultimately the complainants have to come to the police stations to register their complaints. There have also been grievances that how manpower is also being reduced to aid the citizens in dealing with the delay of online FIRS.

Conceding that there are a problem, senior officials of Gurugram police said that steps are being taken to ensure that problems in the process are looked into.

“There may be snags due to technical glitches in the FIR but steps are being taken by the engineers that how these deficiencies can be rectified,” said a senior police official from Gurugram police. Another initiative by Gurugram police to encourage citizens to send traffic violations through Whatsapp also fell apart afterward no follow-up measures were taken to make the initiative successful.

In 2017 in order to curb traffic violations, the Gurugram police started a programme wherein they encouraged citizens to send them the videos of traffic violations so that action can be taken against the offenders.

The problem of poor services of police helpline number has been felt for long in Gurugram. The problem has affected not only the women who get targeted by criminals but also the accident victims. Slow response and rude behaviour by the attendants are the major complaints that get highlighted daily.

Phone lines being continuously engaged, lack of understating by the police personnel who attend the call and slow response by the officials to respond to emergencies are some major hurdles. While the police also have an alternate number 0124-2221601 and women police helpline number 1091, lack of awareness among the citizens results in these numbers not being used by most of the people.

Moreover, the basic process of updating the websites have also not been fol

lowed by the Gurugram police with various digital challenges. Citizens often take to social media to vent out their grievances but even here the list of complaints due to poor response of police officials keeps on rising.

“The Gurugram police had taken to social media platforms in wonderful ways. Initially, there used to be two-way communication. Of- lately, however, the medium has become a bit of a mono

logue,” said Kamal Preet Yadav.
