Premier League: Milivojevic strikes late as Palace halt Arsenal’s winning run Without Hazard, Chelsea overwhelms Burnley
LONDON: Arsenal's 11-game winning run in all competitions ended with a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday.
Luka Milivojevic converted a penalty — his second of the afternoon — in the 83rd minute to earn Palace a point at Selhurst Park as Arsenal failed to win a game for the first time since mid-august.
Granit Xhaka, with a thunderous free kick, and PierreEmerick Aubameyang scored in a five-minute span to put Arsenal ahead by the 56th after Milivojevic's first penalty gave Palace the lead in first-half stoppage time.
After opening the season with losses to Manchester City and Chelsea, Arsenal embarked on a two-month winning streak across three competitions — the league, the Europa League and the English League Cup — as the methods of newly hired manager Unai Emery started to take hold. Fourth-place Arsenal will drop out of the Champions League qualification positions if Tottenham beats Manchester City on Monday.
Aubameyang's strike — a close-range finish at the far post — means the Gabon international scored with each of his last six shots on target in the Premier League. He grabbed braces off the bench in his previous two games. The goal, which made it 2-1, was contentious because strike partner Alexandre Lacazette flicked the ball on from a corner using his outstretched hand. BURNLEY: The absence of star attacker Eden Hazard did not affect Chelsea in its 4-0 thrashing of Burnley that kept the team unbeaten in the Premier League on Sunday.
With Hazard missing because of a back injury, Ross Barkley stepped up as Chelsea's main creative force as the attacking midfielder scored from outside the area and also set up two other goals at Turf Moor.
Barkley played in Alvaro Morata with a defense-splitting pass for the opening goal in the 22nd minute. After making it 2-0, Barkley gave Willian a short pass and the Brazil winger cut inside to curl a fine shot into the corner from 25 meters.
Ruben Loftus-cheek, on as a substitute for the injured Pedro Rodriguez in the first half, completed the rout in second-half stoppage time by sweeping home from close range following a corner.
It was a second straight heavy loss for Burnley, which was beaten 5-0 at Manches- ter City last weekend. Hazard, the league's joint top scorer on seven goals, hurt his back against Manchester United last week- end and also missed the Europa League game against BATE Borisov on Thursday.
Chelsea has won seven games and drawn the other three of its opening 10 games in the league this season.
