CM Kejriwal to inaugurate Signature Bridge on Nov 4

- ROUSHAN ALI

NEW DELHI: After persistent follow-up and regular persuasion of the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the iconic Signature Bridge over Yamuna river at Wazirabad is now ready to be commissioned. The much-awaited Signature Bridge is set to open for the public on November 5 as Kejriwal will inaugurate the bridge on November 4, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said while conducting the final inspection of the Signature Bridge. Sisodia was accompanied by Minister of SC-ST Welfare Rajendra Pal Gautam, senior leader Dilip Pandey, MLAS Chaudhary Fateh Singh, Sanjeev Jha, Dutt Sharma, Haji Mohd Israq Khan, Pankaj Puskar, General Manager, DTTDC, C Arvind, Chief Engineer, Shishir Bansal and other senior Officers of concerned Departments.

As per the project plan, the bridge, which will reduce the travel time between north and northeast Delhi, will have designated selfie spots. Inspecting the bridge, Sisodia said that the Signature Bridge as the new landmark of Delhi, will connect Wazirabad across the river Yamuna with the inner city.

The Western and Eastern approaches to Bridge will connect the nearby areas like Timarpur, Nehru Vihar, Wazirabad, Aruna Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar on Ring Road to Bhajanpura on Mangal Pandey Marg. The distance between two sides of bridge will be reduced from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes saving the pollution to Environment, Travel time and Fuel.

Delhiites will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the city from the top of the bridge, where they will be taken in four elevators with a total capacity of carrying 50 people. The elevators area is likely to be operational in two months, an official said. He said the bridge will serve as a tourist destination with the 154-metre-high glass box giving a bird's-eye view of the city to visitors.

Talking to reporters during the inspection, Sisodia said the bridge will become a tourist spot. Announced in 2004, the bridge missed several deadlines since 2011. The proposal for the bridge, mooted in 2004, received approval of the Delhi Cabinet in 2007.
