To ensure a green Diwali, Delhi Police ropes in cinema halls
NEW DELHI: To intensify its efforts for ensuring a green Diwali, Delhi Police has ordered all cinema halls in the Capital to show jingles and advertisements to spread awareness about eschewing firework,s in accordance with direction of the Supreme Court.
“Jingles spreading awareness this Diwali would be run between movies in cinema halls. We want to make Delhi residents aware of the hazards of noise and air pollution, in accordance with the Supreme Court direction,” said Madhur Verma, PRO, Delhi Police.
Moreover, cops are reaching out to the public to refrain Police during a drive in Kalkaji on Friday
from bursting crackers, with senior officers holding meetings with public in their respective jurisdictions and devising various methods to bring a change.
“Extensive measures are being undertaken by West Delhi police to make public aware of the Supreme Court guidelines regarding crackers. Teachers and students from school and colleges, RWAS, MWAS, and street corner meetings are being used to sensitise people on a large scale,” Monika Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) said.
Meanwhile, teams from all 13 police stations in South East Delhi are organising events across schools and colleges, and awareness marches are being organised in prominent markets and residential localities in the district.
“In its endeavour for a clean and green Diwali, police teams are sensitising school and college children, as well as residents about recent directives of the Supreme Court. Children are being informed of using only green or Reduced emission firecrackers on Diwali, only between 8 to 10 pm only,” said DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal.
Meanwhile, RWAS are being requested to motivate residents to use community firecrackers in open and safe places. They are also being directed to purchase green crackers from authorised shops only and inform police about any illegal storage or sale of crackers.
