Three-yr-old falls to his death inside open pit in Narela

Cops are looking for the owner of the building

NEW DELHI: In a tragic incident, a three-year-old boy died after falling into an open pit in Rohini’s Narela area on Friday.

Police said the deceased boy was identified as Dhruv, a resident of Narela, adding that the incident took place at around 11 am.

“Dhruv and his friends were playing near an abandoned building, outside which a pit had been dug. Dhruv fell into the tank and died,” said Gaurav Sharma, Additional Deputy Commission­er of Police (Rohini).

Sources said that Dhruv’s grandfathe­r was present at the spot, but could only helplessly watch him play and fall into the pit.

Police have registered a case and are looking for the owner of the building, who negligentl­y left the pit open.

No fencing was present around the tank, neither was there a signboard to warn the public, said a senior police officer.

Dhruv’s father is an e-rickshaw driver and his family live in a rented house at Narela. His mother is a homemaker and he had a sixmonth-old sister, said a relative of Dhruv’s father.

A case has been registered under appropriat­e sections of the IPC and investigat­ion is underway.
