Three-yr-old falls to his death in­side open pit in Narela

Cops are look­ing for the owner of the build­ing

NEW DELHI: In a tragic in­ci­dent, a three-year-old boy died af­ter fall­ing into an open pit in Ro­hini’s Narela area on Fri­day.

Po­lice said the de­ceased boy was iden­ti­fied as Dhruv, a res­i­dent of Narela, adding that the in­ci­dent took place at around 11 am.

“Dhruv and his friends were play­ing near an aban­doned build­ing, out­side which a pit had been dug. Dhruv fell into the tank and died,” said Gau­rav Sharma, Ad­di­tional Deputy Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice (Ro­hini).

Sources said that Dhruv’s grand­fa­ther was present at the spot, but could only help­lessly watch him play and fall into the pit.

Po­lice have reg­is­tered a case and are look­ing for the owner of the build­ing, who neg­li­gently left the pit open.

No fenc­ing was present around the tank, nei­ther was there a sign­board to warn the pub­lic, said a se­nior po­lice of­fi­cer.

Dhruv’s fa­ther is an e-rickshaw driver and his fam­ily live in a rented house at Narela. His mother is a home­maker and he had a six­month-old sis­ter, said a rel­a­tive of Dhruv’s fa­ther.

A case has been reg­is­tered un­der ap­pro­pri­ate sec­tions of the IPC and in­ves­ti­ga­tion is un­der­way.
