Inebriated driver rams into two other cars; woman dies

NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old woman died in a fatal accident at the Punjabi Bagh Flyover in west Delhi on Friday night, with Delhi Police on Saturday saying the victim has been identified as Poonam Sardana.

Cops said that Sardana, her husband Vimal, her brotherin-law Sudhir and her 13-yearold daughter Chetanya were coming from Chattarpur Mandir in their Mahindra Quanto car when the accident occurred.

All others were injured as well, with Chetanya reportedly receiving severe injuries.

Cops said that at the Punjabi Bagh flyover, a speeding car driven on the other side by 22-year-old Shivani Mallik suddenly jumped the road divider and struck the Saadana family’s car, before hitting another car and turning turtle on the road.

Police said they received a call about the incident at 11.54 pm Friday, immediatel­y after which teams from a nearby police station rushed to the spot and began the rescue.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, but Poonam succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.

Cops said Poonam was a resident of Adarsh Nagar in north Delhi, adding that all three cars were severely damaged in the accident.

“At the time of the accident three more people were with her,” she added.
