BHUBANESWAR: Addressing the 14th convocation ceremony of Kalinga Institute of Technology (KIIT) on Sunday, Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal asked graduating students of the 2017-18 batch not to fall into the trap of “material goddesses of ignorance, illusion, corruption, conspiracy, diplomacy” and “be an icon of yourselves and never imitate others.”

“Every country of the world is striving for economy supremacy. You are going to face a world divided by the lines of religion, regions, colour, languages, etc and the biggest challenge before you is to vanquish these divisions”, the Governor told the students.

Lal also lauded Prof Achyuta Samanta, founder, KIIT, for “bringing smiles to 27,500 underprivileged children.”

A total 5,695 students of KIIT here received their degrees at its 14th Annual Convocation. Among them, 77 students got PH.D. degrees in various disciplines.

In his address, Dr Kahan said, “I have visited many places in the world, but never saw institutions like KIIT and KISS (Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences). The two institutions are indeed examples for the whole world.”

He also promised to help KIIT in all ways possible, particularly in the field of medical science research. Prof. Kahan, who is a well-known litterateur besides a physician, also read a poem he had written on conflict in Middle East and relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings.
