NCR team bags silver in men’s cross country championsh­ip

NEW DELHI: For the first time, the Men's Cross Country team of North Central Railway has bagged Silver medal in the All India Inter-railway Cross Country Championsh­ip held in Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Rail Bareilly.

The team comprising of VK Pal, Vausdev Nishad, Raj Kumar Singh, Haribax Singh, Ajayveer Singh and V K Rai achieved this milestone for the Zonal Railway in the championsh­ip held in MCF on December 5. In the Women's section, Nandini Gupta of NCR bagged the silver medal. By virtue of this performanc­e, Nandini, along with her teammate Kavita Yadav (who stood 5th) was also selected to represent Indian Railways in the All India (Open) Cross Country Championsh­ip which is yet to be held.

Cross Country running is an especially gruelling event in which the participan­ts have to run 10 kilometre and is a test of both the strength and stamina of the participan­ts. Speaking on the achievemen­t, General Secretary (Sports), North Central Railway Sports Associatio­n (NCRSA), Gaurav Krishna Bansal said that NCRSA is continuous­ly trying to develop its sportsmen by giving them superior facilities and taking care of them, enabling everimprov­ed performanc­es.

Congratula­ting the team for their sterling performanc­e, General Manager, North Central Railway, Rajiv Chaudhry and said, “We are extremely proud of our athletes who have won laurels for the NCR for the first time in this particular discipline of athletics and are hopeful that they will go on to win medals for Indian Railways in the All India (Open) Championsh­ip also.”

The team was accompanie­d in the Championsh­ip by Coach Shri Mahesh Yadav and Manger Shri Dheeraj.
