NCR team bags sil­ver in men’s cross coun­try cham­pi­onship

NEW DELHI: For the first time, the Men's Cross Coun­try team of North Cen­tral Rail­way has bagged Sil­ver medal in the All In­dia In­ter-rail­way Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onship held in Modern Coach Fac­tory (MCF), Rail Bareilly.

The team com­pris­ing of VK Pal, Vaus­dev Nishad, Raj Ku­mar Singh, Haribax Singh, Ajayveer Singh and V K Rai achieved this mile­stone for the Zonal Rail­way in the cham­pi­onship held in MCF on De­cem­ber 5. In the Women's sec­tion, Nan­dini Gupta of NCR bagged the sil­ver medal. By virtue of this per­for­mance, Nan­dini, along with her team­mate Kavita Ya­dav (who stood 5th) was also se­lected to rep­re­sent In­dian Rail­ways in the All In­dia (Open) Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onship which is yet to be held.

Cross Coun­try run­ning is an es­pe­cially gru­elling event in which the par­tic­i­pants have to run 10 kilo­me­tre and is a test of both the strength and stamina of the par­tic­i­pants. Speak­ing on the achieve­ment, Gen­eral Sec­re­tary (Sports), North Cen­tral Rail­way Sports As­so­ci­a­tion (NCRSA), Gau­rav Kr­ishna Bansal said that NCRSA is con­tin­u­ously try­ing to de­velop its sports­men by giv­ing them su­pe­rior fa­cil­i­ties and tak­ing care of them, en­abling ev­er­im­proved per­for­mances.

Con­grat­u­lat­ing the team for their ster­ling per­for­mance, Gen­eral Man­ager, North Cen­tral Rail­way, Ra­jiv Chaudhry and said, “We are ex­tremely proud of our ath­letes who have won lau­rels for the NCR for the first time in this par­tic­u­lar dis­ci­pline of ath­let­ics and are hope­ful that they will go on to win medals for In­dian Rail­ways in the All In­dia (Open) Cham­pi­onship also.”

The team was ac­com­pa­nied in the Cham­pi­onship by Coach Shri Ma­hesh Ya­dav and Manger Shri Dheeraj.
