Two in­jured af­ter be­ing hit by Mercedes, driver ar­rested

NEW DELHI: In sus­pected hit and run case, two per­sons were in­jured af­ter be­ing hit by a Mercedes car in West Delhi's Pun­jabi Bagh area on Sun­day. Po­lice claimed that they have ar­rested the er­rant driver in the case.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, on the in­ter­ven­ing night of 11-12 Jan­uary, a PCR call was re­ceived at about 2.30 am re­gard­ing an ac­ci­dent by an un­known ve­hi­cle on the ring road in Pun­jabi Bagh.

"At the spot, the vic­tims, iden­ti­fied as Ravin­der (23) and Ro­hit (24), both res­i­dents of Haryana, were found in an in­jured con­di­tion," said po­lice.

The vic­tims fur­ther told cops that they work in Mcdon­ald’s Gur­gaon and were re­turn­ing from Murthal on their TVS Apache mo­tor­cy­cle.

"When they reached op­po­site Pun­jabi Bagh cre­ma­to­rium, an un­known car came from be­hind rashly and hit them and fled from the spot," said DCP (West) Monika Bharad­waj.

She fur­ther stated that how­ever, the num­ber plate of the of­fend­ing ve­hi­cle bear­ing Delhi num­ber fell at the spot. Both the in­jured were shifted to ESI hos­pi­tal in Ba­sai Dara­pur and were dis­charged af­ter treat­ment.

A case un­der sec­tions-279/337 of IPC was reg­is­tered and the in­ves­ti­ga­tion was taken up.

Po­lice claimed that dur­ing probe, the of­fend­ing ve­hi­cle was found reg­is­tered on the name of Man­jit, a res­i­dent of Am­bika Vi­har and his son Ga­gan­deep (28) was driv­ing the ve­hi­cle at the times of the in­ci­dent.

The ac­cused has been ar­rested in this case. Fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion is in progress.

Po­lice claimed that the fa­ther of the ac­cused owns some man­u­fac­tur­ing unit in Vikaspuri area. The vic­tim Ravin­der's brother claimed that his brother went to Delhi for some work and was re­turn­ing when the in­ci­dent took place.

"He was tak­ing U-turn and slowed down his ve­hi­cle when the car drove rashly hit the mo­tor­cy­cle and fled," said vic­tim's brother.

The com­plaint was given by Ravin­dra Singh who told cops that he and his friend Ro­hit fell far away from the mo­tor­cy­cle. His friend Vicky, Vinod and the po­lice ad­mit­ted them to hos­pi­tal. Mean­while, an in­ves­ti­ga­tor claimed that it was not hit and run case.

"The crowd started to gather around the spot but he did not stop due to fear and fled from the spot and later ar­rested," a po­lice of­fi­cer said. The of­fi­cer fur­ther added that the vic­tims were com­ing from Murthal af­ter hav­ing food when the in­ci­dent took place.
