GURUGRAM: Haryana government appointed 32-year-old Amit Khatri as the new Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram. He was earlier the DC of Jind. The appointment of new DC has come just months before the state goes to General and Assembly elections.

Hailing from Sonepat, Khatri was first a computer engineer before he took a plunge in Civil services. He got 11th rank overall in the 2010 Union Public Services Commission (UPSC).

Being a computer engineer, to begin with, Khatri initially was not able to make it in the first attempt. In the second attempt, he was able to get through the Indian revenue service but in his third attempt Khatri has been credited for conceptualising the decentralised sewage treatment plan in the city

Khatri was able to secure the 11th rank and get through the Indian Administrative Service (IAS)

Being an additional commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, he is credited for conceptualising the decentralised sewage treatment plan in the city. After his stint in MCG, Khatri was transferred as DC to Jind. Khatri has been credited for improving the sewage system in the city. He has been credited for holding the Jind elections in which BJP won. Khatri assumes office in the city which is grappling with the challenges of social as well as physical infrastructure.

He succeeds his batchmate Vinay Pratap Singh who has been transferred as the DC of Karnal. Singh in his stints of being first Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and DC, spent five years in the city. Singh was tasked with key responsibility of improving the security situation in private schools after the gruesome murder of eight-year-old student inside the washroom of the school.
