Factory worker dies after his head gets stuck in Shahdara’s factory lift

NEW DELHI: In a tragic incident, a factory worker died after his head stuck in the lift, inside taps making factory, in Shahdara's Seemapuri area on March

20. Police have registered a case in this regard and investigat­ion is going on.

Meanwhile, the complainan­t in the case has told police that the lift was not working properly.

"We have told the owner about the lift but he pays no heed which resulted in the incident," the complainan­t told the police. According to the investigat­ing agency, the incident was reported on March 20 when the deceased, identified as Punit, was taking out goods from the

lift when it suddenly started to run and his head got stuck in the

Punit to the hospital where he was declared brought dead," police said adding that he had joined the factory two and a half months ago.

The police were told that the labourers had complained about the lift to the factory owner.

"The lift used to stop or sometimes run. No safety gears were given to the labourers," the complainan­t told the police.

The city police had registered a case under sections 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 304 A (Causing death by negligence) in Seemapuri police station.

The deceased hails from Bihar. Additional Deputy Commission­er of Police (Shahdara) Ved Prakash Surya said that they are probing the case and soon arrest can be made.

MACHINE TAKING LIVES

Last year, four constructi­on labourers were killed after a hydraulic lift malfunctio­ned and collapsed at a constructi­on site in outer Delhi's Narela.

In another case, a 27-yearold man was crushed to death due to an alleged malfunctio­n in the lift he had taken in a factory in Rohini district's Narela area.

A woman in her late 50s died after her saree came in contact with the machine in Narela area of Rohini district. Police claimed that the head was severed during the incident.
