‘Thakur can’t decide anything’

-

Suresh Chandel spoke to Ashwani Sharma, Assistant Editor, Millennium Post, on reasons joining the Congress, despite his Rss-background and being BJP'S hardcore organisational man.

How tough it was to leave the BJP?

It was very tough. I had started my career as a students' leader and remained active in the ABVP. I grow-up and matured politically fighting the Congress and it's ideologies tooth and nails. It's my destiny that now I am in Congress, totally in an adverse situation yet with optimism. What are compelling reasons?

So many. It's pity that the BJP which claims itself to be the world's largest party has lost its basic principles. Even the persons holding responsible position have no sense of accountability. The system of collective decision making---which was an integral part of party functioning for years no longer exists. Despite my repeated meeting and requests, even to the highest figures like Amit Shah, to define my role in the party went unheeded. Here, no one listens to a genuine voice. Everybody has sealed their lips.

You had a meeting with Chief Minister last week. Nothing worked?

Laughs! He (Jai Ram Thakur) is just a face. He can't decide anything. Moreover, he is very new to the post. Gave no concrete answer to my questions. Perhaps, he has nothing to offer too. I remember, when I was state president things were different. There is an erosion of authority. Decisions are taken in a hush-hush manner behind the curtains. What’s your impression about Rahul Gandhi?

A/ He sounded to me a nice gentleman. He spoke very softly to know my background and works in the organisation. I think he had a brief already about me. I also appreciate the way Congress received me whole-heartedly, particularly new PCC president Kuldeep Rathore. He is a man carrying the show very well for the party in the state. What’s your predictions on the poll in HP?

A/ It's really going to be tough for the BJP to repeat 2014. I don't see any wave (of Modi). The state government also has not much to showcase to the public. The results will definitely be a surprise.
