Happy that this year all of us have reduced cases of dengue: CM
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Chief Minister, on the 6th Sunday of the campaign against dengue, inspected his house for stagnant water. He inspected inside and outside his house for any breeding of the dengue larvae. He expressed joy over the fact that the number of dengue cases has reduced this year due to the collective effort of the people.
In a tweet Kejriwal said, “Another Sunday, checked my home today. I am happy that this year all of us have reduced the cases of dengue due to hard work. As part of the campaign '10 Hafte 10 Baje 10 Minute', all of us will have to do a few more weeks of checking, because doctors believe that there is a risk of dengue till November 15.”
Under the campaign, which started from September 1, the government sought help from Delhi residents, welfare organisations, ministers, government officials, and school children to control the breeding of aedes aegypti mosquitoes, a report said.
The aedes aegypti transmits diseases such as dengue and chikungunya have become endemic to Delhi and breeds in clean stagnant water. The life cycle of the mosquito is about eight to 10 days.
In 2015, when there was an outbreak in Delhi, the number of cases recorded in the country was 99,913. In 2019, only 5,504 cases had been recorded till May 26, according to National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) data.
To control the spread of
the disease and provide timely treatment, the government opened about 500 fever clinics in its hospitals, dispensaries, and mohalla clinics. The private hospitals were given permission to increase their bed strength by 20 percent during the season only for fever patients.
Kejriwal said that the doctors had warned him earlier that dengue mosquitoes might see a sudden surge this year. That is why this year, this massive public participation campaign has been started.
