8 patrolling bikes flagged off to curb street crimes in Ghaziabad

-

GHAZIABAD: Ghaziabad's Senior Superintendent of Police, on Monday, flagged off eight patrolling bikes named ‘Tejas' to put a curb on street crimes in the district. Cops said that two officers on each motorcycle will be deployed in civil dress.

As per police officials, the Preventive Patrolling Force, comprising of a constable and a sub inspector on each bike, will move across the city on motorbikes in search of miscreants. The teams will keep a strict watch outside schools, market, colleges, parks and other spots which are vulnerable to snatching and other street crimes.

“The move is aimed to curb street crimes like snatching of mobile phones and jewellery. There will be no sticker or any other mark of identification on these vehicles while the cops deployed on them will also wear civil dress. The objective of this will be that the culprits won't be able to identify the cop and we will be able to curb the crime,” said Sudhir Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police in Ghaziabad.

The officer further said that the patrolling units will be directly in touch with the control room at the office of the senior superintendent of police through wireless.

“These officials are being trained to identify suspicious elements, check them and raise awareness among the public on checking crime. The teams will be personally monitored by senior cops and more stress will be laid on their training or any other issues they face during patrolling,” added Singh.

Incidents of snatching and other street crimes are on a rise where bike-borne assailants commit crime and easily flee the spot even from busy roads.

Police have identified nearly 40 vulnerable spots in city area where street crime rates are very high like Mohan Nagar junction, Habitat centre in Indirapuram and others.
