GURUGRAM: Of late, the national Capital has witnessed a spurt in street crimes. In neighbouring Gurugram however, the crooks have devised a unique way of making quick money through illegal means. In a concern for law enforcement officials, the crooks are becoming successful in their bid to dupe foreign nationals. According to the official data in just six months, there have been 42 cases of foreign nationals being cheated. Surprisingly the criminals have adopted same trend of disguising themselves and in effect stealing huge money from the victims.

A hub for medical facilities and multinational companies, a lot of people from other countries often frequent Gurugram, the criminals are now successfully targetting them and robbing a cash amount that is more in lakhs.

On Sunday, the crooks were able to financially dupe an Iraqi couple by posing as fake policemen and stole Rs 1.6 lakh from them. This is not for the first time that the criminals have adopted this modus operandi to target the foreign nationals. Just two months ago, a Singaporean was also duped in the same manner where in the name of doing necessary checks the criminals were disguised as police officials.

According to law enforcement officials, there is a wellsyndicated network which is working in the city that is specifically focussed on targetting people who come from other countries. Not only are they being tracked physically but even in the digital means, the criminals have been able to get a strong foothold. According to Gurugram police, there have been cases where foreigners have also been duped by the online channels.

It is important to note that among the cyber crimes, cheating through fake identities are the topmost crimes that are being handled by the law enforcement officials. Most of the foreign firms are also being targetted by the fake call centre firms that have been busted by the Gururgam police.

“Ensuring the safety of foreign nationals and their financial assets is our utmost priority. We have been able to arrest some people in the previous cases and we will ensure that the incidents of foreigners being cheated by the local reduce,” said a senior official from Gurugram police.
