On very first day of DMRC takeover, frequency of Ggm rapid metro improves

- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURURGAM: One of the highlights of the functioning of the Gurugram's Rapid Metro under the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on day one was the better frequency of metro arrival and departures. The early arrival of the metro was a point appreciated by the office goers who cued up in sizeable numbers to go to their workplaces.

The DMRC which is going to be responsible for operations and the maintenance part of Gurugram's metro have already standardised the duration of the arrivals of the metro.

In the morning when the rush is expected to be large because of the office hours the time of arrival of the train has been set at every 4.14 minutes while in the evening it will be 5.15 minutes. Before the takeover of DMRC, it used to take as long as 8-10 minutes for the trains to arrive. “There is definitely a sigh of relief that Gurugram Rapid Metro will now be run by DMRC. I really hope that as the Airport Express line was changed, Gurugram Metro will also operate more effectively and will become profitable soon,” said Anand Sahay who used the Gurugram metro to go to his office in the Cyber Greens area.

A major challenge for the DMRC will to increase the number of passengers in Gurugram. In order to achieve its objective, the DMRC in the coming months is expected to mull over price reduction to even reduce the workforce if required.

“It will be too premature for us to comment on how will DMRC manage the Rapid Metro. We will be in continuous touch with its management to remove all the outstanding issues,” said D Suresh Managing Director of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC).
