CM Kejriwal flags off 104 new buses

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal flagged off the second batch of buses from the 1,000 standard floor CNG buses that started coming in last month. After flagging off 25 buses earlier, the chief minister flagged off 104 new buses on Friday at the Dwarka Sector 22 bus depot. The buses feature modern technology, including CCTV cameras and panic buttons for women's safety, and hydraulic lifts for differentl­yabled passengers.

The Delhi CM said, “I want to congratula­te the people of Delhi on the arrival of 104 new buses on the roads of the city. It is a huge step towards providing convenienc­e to the people and will strengthen Delhi's public transport. On one hand, new buses will be running on the roads of Delhi, and on the other hand, women will be able to access free bus rides starting from the occasion of Bhai Dooj on October 29. The Delhi government will also deploy bus marshalls within the next week to ensure the safety and security of women in Delhi buses.” The route for new buses include, Nangloi to Mehrauli, Najafgarh to Safdarjung Terminal,

Nangloi to Badarpur Extension, Qutubgarh Border to Old Delhi, Uttam Nagar to Kapas Hera Border, Qutubgarh to Old Delhi Fatehpuri, Najafgarh to Azadpur, Kanjhawala to Azadpur, and Najagfarh to Narela.

In addition to the 104 buses, 1,000 low floor AC buses are also inducted in the cluster scheme. These buses are suitable for boarding and alighting of differentl­y-abled persons, elderly persons, children, and women.

The contract of 650 Low Floor buses has already been awarded by the Department of Transport for three clusters and the delivery of the buses is expeceted in January 2020. The tender for balance 350 buses will be floated soon.
