SECURITY HEIGHTENED ON DIWALI

NEW DELHI: From creating awareness among public to beefing up checking and patrolling, Delhi Police are making all round efforts for the safety of Delhiites during the festival of Diwali. Police sources told that Amulya Patnaik had directed DCSP to beef up security in high footfall areas in the city.

The city police have also conducted crackdown on the sale of illegal firecracke­rs in the city. According to police, they have increased their presence in markets and other crowded areas. Meetings were also conducted with RWAS and MWAS regarding security measures for the festive season.

Joint Commission­er of Police (Western Range) Shalini Singh told Millennium Post that they are creating awareness among people in which they were told to inform police if they notice any suspicious things or persons in their area.

"Integrated pickets have been placed for surprise checking," said Joint CP.

Curbing street crime during the festive season is another important priority for police and for which staff has been deployed at strategic locations to ensure that no crime incident especially snatching takes place.

The dog squad is monitoring all markets and the private guards at malls and markets have been trained on how to properly check vehicles entering the premises. The city police have also started checking the guest houses, hotels in their jurisdicti­on to know the details of people who are living there.

The footages of CCTV cameras at markets and residentia­l areas being constantly monitored.

Joint Commission­er of Police (southern range) Devesh Srivastava said that direction were given to DCSP and Additional DCSP to conduct patrolling in their districts.

“CCTVS being regularly monitored by staff. Various steps have been taken to make sure no untoward incident took place,” said Joint CP Devesh Srivastava.

Meanwhile, city police had also arrested 23 persons involved in selling banned firecracke­rs. As many as 4,576.25 kgs of banned fire crackers were recovered by Delhi Police from various parts of the city. More than 20 cases were also registered in this regard.
