MP: CBI raids premises of Congress MLA

NEW DELHI: The CBI on Wednesday raided the premises of Congress MLA Raghuraj Singh Kansana in Madhya Pradesh, in connection with a bank fraud case registered against a warehouse run by his family members.

The Central Bureau of Investigation's action comes as part of its nationwide efforts to tackle bank frauds, with respect to which, the agency had started searching more than 187 locations across the country on Tuesday.

While the agency has registered around 42 separate cases of bank fraud, all of which amount to a combined fraud amount of over Rs 7,200 crore, the case against Kansana Warehouse alleged that warehouse receipts were regularly fabricated and fraudulent warehouse receipts were issued to employees' and relatives of the owner.

The agency's FIR in the case alleged that loans worth around Rs 8.08 crore from a UCO Bank branch were availed by the accused company and their owners against these fraudulent and fabricated warehouse receipts.

Further, the Bank alleged in its complaint to the CBI that the warehouse owners regularly released goods from their premises without the requisite paperwork from the branch.

Kansana is the Congress MLA for Morena constituency in Madhya Pradesh and the bank fraud case is registered against PS Kansana Warehouse and Kushal Singh Kansana.

Meanwhile, the CBI'S nationwide drive against bank fraud continued on Wednesday, with the agency regstering at least three more cases and conducting searches at 12 locations in Delhi Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda and Gurdaspur.

The fresh cases were registered against JR Agrotech Pvt Ltd in Gurdaspur, Vinod Cotton Corporation in Bhatinda, and Ahuja Global Ltd in Punjab and their respective directors.

It is alleged that these companies defrauded banks worth around Rs 208.85 crore by forging loan documents and fabricating details to avail loans.
