Explore the traditional aromas of India at Dilli haat
Bringing the fine art of Itra and Sugandhi making, core forms of traditional Indian perfumery, Delhi Tourism is organising the Itra and Sugandhi Mela at Dilli Haat Janakpuri from November 8-10, 2019, in association with Fragrance and Flavor Development Centre (FFDC), Kannauj, Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India.
Capturing the essence of flowers, spices and other natural sources, the sublime art of making Itra has been passed down through ages with rituals and practices. Encased in dainty glass vials and crystal bottles, Itra has been one of the most notable part of our diverse culture, adding a sensory dimension to one’s experience.
The three-day festival will highlight the ancient and rich heritage of India in the field of natural perfumes and essential oils with sale-cum-exhibition from Itra traders and makers from Kannauj. The festival will provide ample shopping opportunities for fragrance lovers who are interested in Indian Perfumes, Itra, Exotic Aggarbattis, Dhoopbattis, Scented Candles,
Essential oils, and other scented products.
A one of its kind event, the Itra and Sugandhi festival will also host lectures of itra, sugandhi, and Aroma Therapy, On the Spot Perfume and Sugandhi making trials. Even the art of making a handmade leather bottle (Kuppi) will also be revealed at this festival.
Some local and cultural activities will entertain visitors in the evening as kids can enjoy amusement rides.
The Itra and Sugandhi Mela will not only provide an opportunity to purchase products but will also enlighten visitors on how actually these fascinating products are made.
Delhi Tourism’s sole endeavor to organise this festival is to preserve this age-old tradition and to provide fragrance lovers an opportunity to explore the traditional aromas of India. DTTDC proposes to highlight the ancient and rich heritage of India in the field of natural perfumes and essential oils. The three-day festival will start from 12 noon and go on till 10 pm.
