NEW DELHI: Congress workers clashed with Delhi Police on Thursday, when the former were protesting against the soaring prices of onions outside the Delhi Secretariat. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Subhash Chopra along with the party workers held a demonstration against the Aam Aadmi Party government (AAP) and BJP government at the Centre, holding them responsible for the price rise.

The Congress workers wore garland made of onions during the demonstration. However, the party workers clashed with the police when they tried to break past the police barricades to march towards the Delhi Secretariat. The police had to struggle hard to control the angry Congress leaders and workers.

Addressing the large number of agitated Congress workers, Chopra said, “Onion is now selling over Rs 100 per kg, and both the Kejriwal and BJP government are unmoved by the plight of the people.”

The newly apponited Delhi Congress president also appealed to the people of Delhi to vote out the AAP Government in Delhi which it claimed had failed to control not only the prices of onions, but also other essential commodities.

Speaking about the plight of the farmers saying that farmers have not been getting the proper prices for their vegetables, and accused both Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of colluding with hoarders to “create an artificial shortage.”
