Plea in Delhi HC seeking CBI probe into Bois Locker Room

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: Citing that the suspect members of the “Bois Locker Room” Instagram group chat were from “high profile families”, a writ petition has now been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to order for a CBI probe into the case where several South Delhi school-going boys were purportedly found sharing lewd images of underage girls and threatening them with sexual violence.

The petition, filed by advocate Dev Ashish Dubey, puts forward that the case needed to be investigated by a Special Investigating Team (SIT) or the Central Bureau of Investigation, because the students of this social media group belong to “high profile families and there is apprehension that the investigation or enquiry conducted by the local police will be influenced and wrongdoers will never be arrested and punished”.

However, officials of the Delhi Police Cyber Crime Cell (CCC), which is currently probing the case, have claimed that the suspect members, both minors and adults identified so far seem to belong to middle-class families that run small businesses. The police have also added that so far, they are seriously considering only around 10 members of the group as suspects in the case.

In addition to arguing that the accused in the case “should be punished” under relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offence Act, the petition also sought direction from the court with respect to ensuring the safety of the women and girls who have “exposed this heinous crime”, in light of them having already been threatened since the matter was made public.
