Gurugram tally inches closer to 150
GURUGRAM: As total number of cases of COVID-19 in Gurugram inch closer to 150, it has now become a major challenge for Gurugram district administration to ramp up the healthcare facilities.
The difficulties for the district administration further increased after Medanta Hospital halted new admissions of patients infected by Coronavirus. The management argued that the private superspecialty hospital is not under the category of COVID-19 dedicated hospital.
Around 17 health workers have been infected by COVID19 in Gurugram, in which 12 are from Medanta Hospital. There are also reports of some of the other private hospitals refusing the admission of COVID-19 infected patients.
With inadequate public healthcare facilities in Gurugram, most of the COVID-19 patients preferred to get treatment in the private hospitals.
On Friday, a large number of residents of DLF Phase-2 defied the lockdown orders and protested against the proposed takeover of the two guesthouses as COVID-19 isolation centres. The growing dissent led to the plan being ultimately shelved.
The residents protested that setting up the isolation centres in a densely populated area would increase the risk of others residing in the area contracting infection.
It is important to note that one case of COVID 19 has already been reported from DLF Phase-2.
On Saturday, 16 new cases of COVID19 were reported from Gurugram. Five cases were reported from Dundahera, two from Basai Enclave, three from Khandsa vegetable wholesale market, one case each from Sirhaul, Ardee City, Sector-18, IMT Manesar and two health workers.
The number of positive cases of Coronavirus now have increased to 142.There were 13 recoveries on Saturday. With 64 patients having recovered in total, the number of active cases is 78.
On Saturday, 269 samples were collected by the health department of Gurugram, in which 228 samples were col
lected in government laboratories and 41 in private facilities. Till date, 8,089 samples have been sent for testing, in which 7,459 have been tested negative and 142 have been found positive.
