AN UNWISE RETREAT

This is in reference to the article, ‘A nasty retreat’ (May 11). The retreat of globalisation has really upended the world in terms of supply chain management and inflation. Countries continue to impose random tariffs and export bans, leading to further increase in prices. The world is becoming increasingly volatile. With basic goods such as wheat becoming susceptible to events such as a war, it is no wonder that every country is trying to secure its resources and make itself self-sufficient. But as history tells us, it’s not possible and that’s what will separate nations in the times to come. The smart ones will build resilient networks and supply chains while foolish countries will spend years wasting resources to privatise supply chains and ultimately fail.
