Taking a look back at the Dandi March
India International Centre’s Art Gallery, Kamaladevi Complex, is set to screen a film on Mahatma Gandhi.titled ‘In Search of Gandhi’, The Salt Stories, the Lalit Vachani’s film will explore the historic period of 1930, the year when a group of Indians led by a frail, elderly man marched a distance of 241 miles.
Mahatma Gandhi was able to craft an anti-colonial, nationalist movement around the most basic issue of livelihood. Set against the backdrop of Gandhi’s original journey, this documentary is a road movie about issues of livelihood in a modern, globalising India. It is a documentary about ‘the salt stories’ of our times.
The 84-minutes documentary film will be screened on May 23, 2022, at 6:30 pm in the Multipurpose Hall.
The film is part of an ongoin physical exhibition ‘23 Grams of Salt: Retracing Gandhi’s March to Dandi’. The art show began on March 11 and will be on view till May 24, 2022. History lovers and art connoisseurs should definitely visit IIC and enjoy the same,
Through his work, photographer Anuj Ambalal retraces the Mahatma’s steps and those who walked with him. Included in the display are copies of personal letters that Gandhiji wrote during the March and short video film interviews of some of the surviving witnesses of the March.
