Jumbo attack: 70-yr-old dead

-

DARJEELING: An elderly person died in a tusker attack in Banarhat in the Jalpaiguri district on Friday.

The incident occurred in the office lines of the Karbala Tea Estate in Banarhat. At around 4am, 70-year-old Gokul Chhetri had gone out to pluck flowers for his daily puja. He had then come in front of an elephant. Owing to a steady drizzle and lack of street lights visibility was low.

In the elephant attack Chhetri died on the spot. Police and forest personnel recovered his dead body later.

Locals complained that wild animals, especially elephants frequented the garden from the Reti forest.
