CVC grills CBI’S Alok Verma for sec­ond day

Asthana had al­leged that he had doc­u­men­tary ev­i­dence of Verma ac­cept­ing a ₹2 crore­bribe from Sathish Sana, the main eye­wit­ness in the case against meat ex­porter Moin Qureshi.

Of­fi­cials aware of the devel­op­ment said that Asthana had sub­mit­ted the ev­i­dence in sup­port of the charges lev­elled by him against Verma.

CVC had also re­cently ex­am­ined some CBI of­fi­cials in­ves­ti­gat­ing cru­cial cases that fig­ured in Asthana’s com­plaint of cor­rup­tion against the di­rec­tor.

CBI per­son­nel from the rank of in­spec­tor up to su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice were called and their ver­sions recorded be­fore a se­nior CVC of­fi­cial, the peo­ple aware of the is­sue said.

The of­fi­cials who had recorded their state­ments in­cluded those who had han­dled the Moin Qureshi bribery case, the IRCTC scam in­volv­ing for­mer Union rail­way min­is­ter Lalu Prasad, and the cat­tle smug­gling case in which a se­nior Bor­der Se­cu­rity Force of­fi­cer was caught with un­ac­counted for cash in Ker­ala.
