SC to hear cu­ra­tive plea against Asthana’s ap­point­ment next week

New Delhi: The Supreme Court (Sc)thurs­day agreed to hear on 11 De­cem­ber to hear a plea chal­leng­ing its de­ci­sion to dis­miss a pub­lic in­ter­est lit­i­ga­tion against nam­ing Rakesh Asthana as spe­cial di­rec­tor of cen­tral bu­reau of in­ves­ti­ga­tion (CBI).

There is a bit­ter feud be­tween Asthana and CBI di­rec­tor Alok Verma, and both have been di­vested of pow­ers and sent on leave by the cen­tre on 23 Oc­to­ber. PTI will be given ₹3,048 crore as an ad­di­tional as­sis­tance from the Na­tional Dis­as­ter Re­sponse Fund (NDRF), of­fi­cials said.

The Ker­ala gov­ern­ment had sought ₹4,700 crore as com­pen­sa­tion from the cen­tre for the dam­age caused by the floods, which was termed as the worst in a cen­tury. At least 488 peo­ple died in Ker­ala due to the rains and floods this mon­soon, which hit 14 dis­tricts of the state. PTI
