BJP’S Mukul Roy, three oth­ers booked for TMC MLA’S killing

Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukul Roy was among four peo­ple booked on Sun­day in con­nec­tion with the killing of Tri­namool Congress (TMC) mem­ber of leg­isla­tive as­sem­bly (MLA) Satya­jit Biswas in Na­dia dis­trict, po­lice said.

Roy, on his part, said the de­ci­sion to name him in the first in­for­ma­tion re­port (FIR) was “po­lit­i­cally mo­ti­vated”. A West Ben­gal Po­lice of­fi­cer told PTI that two of the four peo­ple named in the FIR have been ar­rested. PTI de­ci­sion-mak­ing process on quota for eco­nom­i­cally weaker sec­tion (EWS) cit­ing a clause of the Right to In­for­ma­tion (RTI) Act that bars dis­clo­sure of records of Cab­i­net pa­pers and dis­cus­sions by min­is­ters.

Venkatesh Nayak, who works with Com­mon­wealth Hu­man Rights Ini­tia­tive (CHRI), had sought de­tails like copy of Cab­i­net note on the mat­ter and cor­re­spon­dence re­ceived from the Prime Min­is­ter’s Of­fice in this re­gard. PTI
