Oneplus 7 PRO
Brilliant Display, Blazing Fast with Bigger Battery, Bang On!
Oneplus loves to keep it simple! With just two launches a year the Chinese smartphone maker disrupts the market throughout. Oneplus smartphones cut across variety of buyers; an iphone lover, a Samsung loyal or
a Xiaomi fan. Oneplus has earned a reputation for the brand in just over five years of operations worldwide, and to further strengthen and cement its position in premium smartphone market it has launched two new premium flagship smartphones; Oneplus 7 and Oneplus 7 Pro. We have got the Oneplus 7 Pro Nebula Blue in 12GB format for review. It’s available in three different RAM/ROM options starting with 6GB/128GB. The review unit which we’ve got costs Rs 57,999. Let’s have a look at it if Oneplus 7 Pro has those X-factors to be able to make people shell out such a huge amount.
Design
The prime upgrade that you’ll see from Oneplus
6T to Oneplus 7 Pro is its design. The company has incorporated some brilliant changes to make it look a premium flagship smartphone. Oneplus 7 Pro is remarkably huge using glass on both and front to design. The usage of glass makes it heavier as compared to its previous generation smartphones or the competitions. It weighs around 206 grams. With 6.67 inches display and curved edges makes Oneplus 7 Pro look endless, hope you remember Samsung Galaxy S9+. The Fluid AMOLED display has the in-display fingerprint scanner too which is accurately very fast, smooth and responsive.
The gigantic screen fits easily into hands and it’s not slippery either. There’s almost no bezel around it on any of the sides, the top of the screen houses the earpiece but, that’s look submerged into the upper panel. The bottom of the device has SIM tray, USB port and speaker grille. The upper panel of Oneplus 7 Pro houses the motorized selfie camera which is quite sturdy. It automatically goes in if you encounter any sudden fall. Though this isn’t new, Oppo and Vivo have already tried and tested the concept of sliding motorized cameras. I am not a big fan of this motorized selfie camera trend because it tends to attract the attention of people around you which sometimes are unwarranted. Even if you don’t want other fellas to know that you’re clicking a selfie, it won’t let it happen but, that’s very personal choice. Nevertheless, the volume key is on the left panel of the phone whereas, the right panel of Oneplus 7 Pro carries the notification button (dedicated) along with the power button.
Apart from the big, immersive and endless display, Oneplus 7 Pro back is worth flaunting. The smartphone has that glass finish which makes it look stunning. The back design is quite symmetrical, the camera module, flash, the Oneplus logo and the branding falls in a vertical straight line. This gives it a clean and appealing look. The Nebula Blue colour shines like a pro, looks premium and sturdy at the same time.it doesn’t get finger imprints on it which is quite astonishing. The rear camera module housed the tri-lens setup which bulges out
of the body. It misses on the wireless charging capability, the traditional 3.5mm jackand IP rating. Overall, the Oneplus 7 Pro has lots of oomph factors in designing and probably the best designed smartphone till date from the stable of Oneplus.
Display
Oneplus 7 Pro is all about display when you look at it.
Its huge, gigantic having curves to give an infinite viewing experience.the mammoth 6.67 inches Fluid AMOLED QHD+ display is just a treat to watch. The screen produces 3120x1440 pixels to showcase wonders. The bezel-less form factor makes it look infinite. The Oneplus 7 Pro supports
HDR 10+ which you’ll only realize if you’re hooked onto Netflix, Amazon and Youtube content. Oneplus 7 Pro overshoots all other in terms of screen refresh rate. It has 90 Hertz refresh rate which means that in a second the screen refreshes itself 90 times. It’s simply amazing to have such a brilliant feature on a smartphone. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The immersive display is most advisable screen available in a smartphone under this price point. The content looks amazing on Oneplus 7 Pro. The text reading is also a worthy experience to have. The cinematic feel it has is unmatched at the moment. The display houses the in-display fingerprint scanner as well that works effortlessly smooth. To summarize, Oneplus 7 Pro has the best display available in all aspects; be it looks, experience and functionalities.
Platform
The Oneplus 7 Pro is the first smartphone in India to ship with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 7nm platform. The Ai-intensive chipset is mighty fast and smooth in operations. To take load of this huge smartphone with immersive display having 90 Hz screen refresh rate, Oneplus 7 Pro needed a chipset like QS 855 which lives upto the expectations of the users and it did exactly well. The smartphone runs on Oxygenos 9 based on Android Pie 9.0. Like any other smartphone with an extra layer of skin Oneplus 7 Pro does not create any problem in daily use as well as during multitasking. The user interface remains smooth and bloatfree. The apps open in blink of a second. The 855 chipset runs like a powerhouse in most of the cases. The Oxygenos is probably the finest skin available that makes tasks simpler, easy to use, navigate and customize. Companies need to take cue from Oneplus as how to make your own skin stand out among Google own OS.THE Oneplus 7 Pro comes in a whooping 12GB of RAM that means you do not have to think about high res gaming which requires very high refresh rate. The octa-core chipset coupled with such intense RAM gives mind boggling thrill and excitement while playing games.and like any other gaming smartphone, Oneplus 7 Pro too comes with Liquid Cooling technology to help you assist during your PUBG campaigns and ultrafast racing.
The 256GB of internal storage makes way for expandable memory card. I have been using it since long but haven’t encountered any lags whatsoever in its performance. It comes with UFS 3.0 that makes transfer of files and multi-media quite easy and time saving.
Cameras
Oneplus 7 Pro uses tri-camera setup at the back. The primary lens is a Sony IMX586 48MP
sensor having 3x optical zoom and aperture of f/1.6 with auto focus. By default, it clicks 12MP images to save on storage. The secondary camera is a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.2 with optical image stabilization. The third lens is a 16MP ultrawide sensor having f/2.2. Coupled together, the trilens setup produces good to brilliant images in most of the scenarios.the 10x digital zoom comes handy for distant shots but comes with lots of noise. The electronic image stabilization helps during shaky and moving conditions. The daylight photography contains minute details and the colour reproduction too remains intact. You would hardly miss the detailing using the combination of three rear cameras on Oneplus 7
Pro. The Portrait shots are okay and needs lots of improvements to judge properly around the edges. The Portrait mode needs lots of refinements in order to compete with Google
Pixel 3a. The slow-motion is enjoyable too. The ultrawide lens comes quite handy in big setups like buildings and monuments and while capturing a huge gathering. The Nightscape helps in enhancing the night photography to a great extent. The rear can also shoot 4K videos at 30fps. The low light photography is pleasing too.
The sliding motorized selfie camera housed in the upper panel of the phone uses a Sony IMX471 sensor of 16MP having f/2.0. The selfie qualities are no different from what it used to be with Oneplus 6T. The normal shots are worth sharing with enough detailing. The AI also comes into play suggesting HDR when needed. The Portrait mode doesn’t deliver the kind of images which we have seen while using Google Pixel 3a. The edge detection remains a problem for Oneplus 7 Pro. There’s screen flash for the dark environments too. The night selfies contains noise and distortion.
Overall, the camera performance of Oneplus 7 Pro is being dominated by its tri-lens setup at the rear while the motorized selfie lens is like any other lens in town. You can play with lot more using the rear cameras and its various functionalities. The Face Unlock is a tedious process as the pop up front camera needs to come up again and again if you’re using it. The front lens also come up automatically if someone calls you up via video calling facility using platforms such as Whatsapp and IMO.
But, if you are okay with it (motorized selfie camera) then Oneplus 7 Pro is up for grabs for you.
Battery
The Oneplus 7 Pro has a 4,000mah battery to go with it. To run this huge monster, the 7 Pro needed such a battery size that could sustain and last long in the process to give you uninterrupted gaming and video content. This 4,000mah non-removable battery easily lasts longunder normal circumstances. The battery sustains the intense gaming continuously for 6 to 8 hours uninterrupted. The biggest advantage Oneplus has over the years is their Dash Charger which is now replaced by a new technology which they call Warp Charger. It fills up the battery in less than 35 minutes. The Warp Charge 30 is fast and efficient. The remarkable improvement has also been in the reduction of heat produced while charging. Oneplus 7 Pro does not heat while charging. The company hasn’t tried for wireless charging yet at this price point which they could have done. Such a huge and sustainable battery is a boon for social media enthusiasts, gamers, binge watchers and wanderers who love to roam carefree.
Conclusion
Oneplus 7 Pro scores heavily on design that is premium and rugged, display which is huge and immersive and performance which is as smooth as the flow of oxygen into our bodies.the battery equally compliments this beast coupled with a new Warp Charge 30.
The smartphone boasts a whooping 12GB RAM that’s like too much too intense for a smartphone. It has something for everyone; a gamer, a photographer, a daily driver, a pro or an amateur. Yet it misses on 3.5mm jack and wireless charging. At Rs 57,999 (12GB), Oneplus 7 Pro is going to take down on Apple and Samsung of being a market slayer. ■
