Five Innovative Laptops introduced at Computex 2019
Smartphones were seen overshadowing Laptops for past some time now, but thanks to our changing computing behaviors, some tech giants have started making more powerful, versatile and extremely good looking laptops. And this year’s Computex Trade expo held in Taipei, Taiwan, saw some major announcements about innovative laptops. Founded in 1981, the trade show took place from May 28 to June 1. Every year Computex brings forth some truly weird and wonderful things and this year was no different. Some innovative and versatile laptops were announced this year and here are our top 5 picks: Asus Zenbook Pro Duo
Computex being the hometown trade show of Asus, the company used the occasion to show off its lineup of new products and it really outdone itself this time, it took the opportunity to its full potential and announced the launch of its latest tech laptop – Asus Zenbook Pro Duo, which comes with not one but two 4k screens.
The laptop comes with 15-inch 16:9 OLED main displayand a 32:9 IPS “Screenpad Plus” screen directly above the keyboard that’s the same width and half the height. Technically, the laptop has three screens if we count the virtual number pad-slashtouchpad as well.
The Zenbook Pro Duo is powered by up to 9th Gen Intel Core chipsets paired with an Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 GPU comprising of 6GB RAM and 32GB memory.
It also comes in a smaller version with 14 inch screen. Asus hasn’t announced the pricing and availability of the Zenbook Pro Duo yetbut they’re expected to land in the third quarter of this year.and anyone who is looking for excellent performance and unique features might get tempted to Asus’ new flagship laptop.

Intel Twin Rivers Concept
Intel is working on its forte of dual screen laptops and coming out with innovative ideas. The company with showed off its prototype device codenamed Twin River alongside the Honeycomb Glacier. The laptop comes with two full size screens measures 12.3 inches diagonally, both the screens are held together by a fabric cover made of polyester.
When the device is set up like a laptop, a full keyboard and a trackpad area can be displayed on the lower screen. Intel also brought a slick, ultra-thin Bluetooth keyboard to Computex. You can slip it between the two panes and it looks a bit like a wide bookmark peeking out.
However, the painful truth is that this is just a prototype and not something Intel is actively manufacturing. But the company claims that devices like “Twin Rivers” will be seen manufactured in coming 2 years. ■
HP Omen X 2S
It rained of dual screen laptops at this year’s Computex event and HP is joins the race as well. HP refreshed its popular gaming laptop series of HP Omen X with dual screen gaming laptop – HP Omen X 2S. It has a primary 15-inch screen with a second screen of 6-inch located right above the keyboard.
It is packed up with Intel Core-i9 and NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2080 Max-q GPU, 32GB of RAM and optional Intel Optane memory storage. It also comes with a fancy new 5-way airflow cooling system. The base configuration includes an Intel Core i7- 16GB RAM and Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070.
The 2X is expected to come out by the end of May, prices unknown. However, putting aside the strange layout for a gaming laptop, it definetly looks like worth the wait. ■
HP Envy Wood Edition
Are you bored of aluminum and plastic? HP just made a laptop out of wood. This year’s Computex saw weird and bizarre things and this is one of it. After a successful experiment with leather, HP announced its new laptop series – HP Envy Wood.
HP is decking out the Envy 13, Envy 17, Envy x360 13, and Envy x360 15 in the new timber-ish livery, which is available in “Nightfall Black with Natural Walnut,” “Ceramic White with White Birch,” and “Natural Silver with Pale Birch.”but siding the wood the machine is pretty much the same with the latest Intel Core processors or 2ndgeneration AMD Ryzen processors.
The company hasn’t released an official date for the launch of Envy Wood series, but it is expected to come out this autumn. ■
Intel Honeycomb Glacier Concept
This year’s Computex event made headlines everywhere supposedly because of the announcements of bizarre and new products but perhaps the most wild of them all is Intel’s idea for dual-screen laptops. Intel announced its new concept of laptop – Honeycomb Glacier, and it attempts to combine a 15.6-inch main display and a 12.3-inch secondary display into a single laptop with a unique double hinge.
It comes with a 15.6inch main display and a 12.3-inch secondary display right above the keyboard.it also has an interesting dual-hinge design that allows users to have both the displays in their field of view. In its closed state, the primary screen opens like a regular laptop and then the secondary screen can be tilted up with a button on the hinge. The angle of the tilt can then be adjusted accordingly.
The Honeycomb Glacier is over locked by Core i9 processor as well as an NVIDIA GTX 1070 and a Tobii eye-tracking camera that’s placed on the central hinge of the primary display to track the eye movements of esports players during professional matches. And because of the bigger size of the secondary screen compared to the Zenbook Pro Duo, more apps can be displayed in it.
The company hasn’t announced the launch date of the laptop yet but this crazy concept could fix the biggest problems with all laptops. ■
