Homegrown brand Lumiford has come up with a new wireless speaker -- 2.1 Subwoofer -- a premium music docking system inspired by New York classic tabletop design. The company emphasizes that it is not a typical Bluetooth speaker but a subwoofer as the top of the speaker is a removable mobile speaker and the rest is a 2.1 subwoofer dock. It is equipped with a power-packed 3.5-inch subwoofer, powered by a potent down-firing subwoofer delivering a clean and

wholesome 26W output. The handset is backed by a longlasting 1500mah built-in battery, enabling you to carry your music anywhere, anytime. According to the company, it is designed to give the best results up to 10 hrs talk time and up to 10 hours of music playtime. The 2.1 Stereo Subwoofer Docking System currently retails for Rs 8,999 on Amazon. I got a chance to try out the very unique subwoofer dock and here’s how it performed.

Design

The body of the subwoofer comes in an impressive combination of fabric and wooden finish. The speaker at the top has fabric covering as well. The speaker has touch buttons on the top for different functions such as volume, music playback, Bluetooth and voice calls. The whole package is a bit heavy. However, it is not the exact case as the mobile speaker can be removed by a slight push on the top from its dock.

Performance

The sound output from the subwoofer is clear even at the higher volume level and you may not notice any sort of noise or distortion in the music. The speaker offers a great range of notes on music genres. The Bluetooth 4.2 works well for pairing, however, the latest Bluetooth 5.0 would have been a good addition. The built-in microphone enables smooth voice calling. The speaker indeed looks good in terms of design but it’s not shock and waterproof.

Battery

The speaker is backed by a long-lasting 1500 mah built-in battery with a built-in mic, enabling you to carry your music anywhere, anytime.

The company claims up to 10 hrs talk time and up to 10 hrs music playtime. However, we also find the battery output to be decent but it lasts for about 7-8 hours easily on a full charge.

Connectivity

The portable stereo handset is engineered with a fast and stable wireless connection to your phone/tablet with a 10m/33ft range. It is designed to automatically reconnect to the last paired device. Also supports AUX mode. It instantly pairs with all Bluetooth-enabled devices (2.1 and higher version), includes cell phones, audio player, tablets, desktops PC and laptops.

Verdict

With a cool design, nice audio output and battery, the recently launched Lumiford 2.1 Subwoofer Dock is overall a nice speaker. If you are looking for an affordable subwoofer, then, you can consider the Lumiford 2.1 Subwoofer Dock. ■
