Vivo v17 Pro

Revolutionary Camera coupled with Elegant Design and Display

-

The growth of vivo in the Indian smartphone market has been the result of the company’s way of communicating with its customers. The company has successfully been able to read its product compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability which has led to the successful stand of the company in the market in the last five years. The smartphones of vivo are evidently loved by the Indians and the company is going to give even more reason to make vivo admirable by launching its latest V17 Pro smartphone. vivo V17 Pro will be taking on the likes of Reno, Reno 2 and other phones of the similar price range. The new vivo

V17 Pro is coming up with revolutionary changes which we will be unveiling in this review of ours.

Design

The essence of the serene beauty of ice has been used by Vivo to give a beautiful look to the phone which we got to review.

The presence of Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is just not only giving high endurance power but, also gives glossy elegant look to the phone.

The reasonable body weight and the curvy edges of the phone allow easy grip and comfortable use of the phone. The aluminum rim running around the body divides the front and rear side of the phone. At the rear side of the phone lies the main attraction of the phone which is the AI quad-camera sensors. The front fascia of the phone is dominated by full view display with no notch. The lack of notch does not mean the phone lacks selfie camera rather the new Vivo V17 Pro possess most inquisitive selfie camera which is dual pop up selfie cameras present at the

top side of the phone. To the bottom side of the phone lies dual SIM tray with a dedicated slot for microsd card, Type-c USB port, and a speaker grille. At the left side of the phone lies the Google Assistant key whereas at the right side lies the power button and the volume rockers. The trend of the physical fingerprint sensor is almost over in mid-range phones, I suppose as almost every phone opts for the inbuilt fingerprint sensor and Vivo V17 Pro also has inbuilt fingerprint sensor which is very quick in response. The face unlock feature of the phone is very accurate as its selfie cameras are very powerful and make it possible for face unlock feature to work in every condition.

Display

Being the successor of vivo V15 Pro the new vivo V17 Pro very successfully lives up to that tag which we can witness from the display of the phone. The new Vivo V17 Pro sports 6.44 inches screen size which is Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. The colors reproduced on the screen are very bright, vivid and punchy. The viewing experience is very good and comfortable as the viewing angles are very wide. The visibility of the screen is very good and when we tested it, it was well visible under bright daylight. There are very sleek bezels present as well but they are not very evident as they are visible when looked very closely. The aspect ratio of the phone is of 20:9 aspect ratio which is attributing to the wide viewing angles of the phone. The screen resolution is of 1080x2400 pixels with 409ppi density. The presence of Corning Gorilla Glass 6 in itself is enough to tell the resistive capacity of the screen.

Cameras

vivo is always termed as camera-centric phone and the company does not shy away from producing phones which possess powerful camera capabilities. The cameras used in the new vivo V17 Pro can be called as one of the best cameras ever used in

Vivo phones but what is more interesting is the presence of six camera lenses which was not ever seen in any phones till now. vivo V17 Pro also is the first phone to have dual selfie camera. The quadcamera sensors are the USP of Vivo V17 Pro which is the main attracting point of the phone. The primary sensor is of 48MP having Sony IMX582 lens with an aperture of f/1.8 which takes 12MP images by combining the data from all the four sensors. The second sensor is of 8MP with an aperture of f/2.4 using AI super wide-angle lens with 120 degrees field of view.

The third sensor is of 13MP using the telephoto lens and having 2x optical zoom and 10x optical zoom, and the last sensor is of 2MP with an aperture of f/2.4. The camera sensor does not have any dedicated macro lens but it is very capable of taking super images of tiny objects with very fine details. The detailing of the images was very good and was better than what we have seen in Oppo Reno 2. The lead over Oppo Reno 2 further goes on as the rear camera of Vivo V17 Pro does not loses its focus when zoomed in to 10X optical zoom whereas the Oppo Reno 2 loses its balance. The daylight shots were fantastic plus the ability of the rear camera to capture stable images even when you are on move makes it one of the best camera phones under such price range and surely a poses a challenge for the likes of Pixel and Apple phones. The ultrawide shots are amazing as the phone manages to capture very good images with a dynamic range and proper color reproduction. The optical zoom does not lose it focus when used which is one of the best things which is found in the new vivo V17 Pro and what is fascinating is that the optical zoom can be used in Super macro modes, ultra-wide mode, portrait mode which is amazing. The optical zoom 2x becomes dysfunctional in Night Mode and Bokeh mode. The videos also can be recorded using 2X optical zoom which is very rare to find in smartphones

and that too without losing any detail and picture quality. The images captured at night were brilliant as well but not as compared to daylight shots because it loses some of its charms. The night mode surely helps to capture the brilliant quality of images with proper details. The

Pro mode during the night becomes handy as it enables the sensors to decrease the exposure level and helps to maintain the originality which is not seen in many smartphones. There is a slight amount of increase in graining and noise effect but it can be easily overlooked.

vivo and Oppo revolutionized the inclusion of selfie cameras by using pop-up modules and the new vivo V17 Pro has taken the further lead by including dual selfie camera sensors which not only adds up to the style but also helps to deliver brilliant selfies. The selfie cameras of the vivo

V17 Pro are a fusion of 32MP lens with an aperture of f/2.0 clubbed with an 8MP super wide-angle lens. The selfies are really good and have a touch of real feeling in terms of color exposure and sharpness which we found slightly missing in Oppo Reno 2 when we reviewed it. The sharpness, edge detection was also good plus its capability to capture crystal clear images at night makes it one real deal for the selfie lovers. The selfie sensors have a front

LED flash to assist them to capture clear selfies even in completely dark conditions. The motorized camera sensors rise within microseconds and also processes the selfie real quick which we loved it. The front camera has an ultra-wide lens as well which enables it to capture group selfies very easily without using any selfie stick.

Platform

vivo V17 Pro has the new Funtouch OS 9.1 running on top of Android 9.0 Pie. The new Funtouch OS 9.1 has significant upgrades over its predecessor as it has a new GUI for a high-tech, dynamic vibe. The latest OS delivers smooth usage experience which can be felt from the touch of the phone while using it.

The processor onboard is Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 with eight octa cores where two cores are clocked at 2.0 GHZ Kryo 460 Gold and six cores clocked at 1.7GHZ Kryo 460 Silver. The processor of the vivo V15 Pro and V17 Pro is the same which is very odd to find out as the company could have upgraded the processor a bit. The processor though worked very fine with no glitch as multi-tasking was smooth and the big apps ran without any issues. The gaming experience on

Vivo V17 Pro is very good as it runs high definitions games in full graphics level and that too smoothly. The Optimized Game mode boosts up the gaming experience by minimizing all the unwanted factors which could affect the game while you are playing. The processor is backed by powerful RAM of 8GB which acts a catalyst to improve the functioning of the phone. The internal storage of the phone is of 128GB which can be further expanded with the help of microsd card. Overall, the phone is not processor centric which is evident from the company’s lack of attention towards upgrading it.

Battery

A powerful phone requires a powerful battery life and the new Vivo V17 Pro has what it takes to make it last throughout the day. The phone is backed by battery power of 4,100mah and fast charging ability and when tested the battery easily lasted the day with ease. The discharging rate of the battery is impressively slow which we loved.

Conclusion

vivo V17 Pro is carved out of a marvelous yet strong glass body, has an immersive

Super AMOLED display where you can count on each minute details. The six camera setup, yes four at the back and two for selfie, are truly magnificent in their each moment. The cameras possess numerous opportunities in it to unleash. The processor masters the art of handling photography, videography, game play and daily tasks with great comfort. Battery is enough to take you for a day. At Rs 29,990, vivo V17 Pro deserves to be our Phone of the Month. ■
