The availability of products under diverse ranges adds up to the probability of success for any company and when it is a smartphone company then surely it means to have an upper hand over other companies. The

Indian smartphone market offers diverse phones from various companies under various ranges. Ignoring the concentrated section of competition which is the mid-range section Oppo has chosen to give competition in the price segment dominated by Oneplus. Oppo has launched the evolved version of Oppo Reno which is Oppo Reno 2 with some upgradations which we will be looking at in this review of ours.

Design

The style gradient of Oppo has always been on top as it comes up with amazing looks and style which we have already seen in the likes of Oppo Find X. The company has worked on improving the dynamics of new Oppo Reno 2 as it is clearly evident that it has a slim body look when compared to previous Oppo Reno. The slim body design reduces the weight also as the new Oppo Reno 2 has reasonable weight.

The handling of the phone is comfortable thanks to the curvy body corners which give firm grip of the phone. The phone looks very catchy especially its rear side where there is slab design which gives chroma effect when you look at it and within this strip lies a micro ball which is a very smart move from the company as it protects the camera lenses from getting scratches. The variant which we got to review has luminous black finish look. There is always a light effect running around the rear panel border and on the strip which is just hard to ignore. The rear panel holds four camera sensors and an LED flash. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the rear side providing the endurance to the phone and at the front side lies Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The front fascia of the phone is complete display which is full view display with no notch but one can sport sleek bezels. At the top of the phone lies the fin-shaped popping selfie camera which is the most unique way to incorporate selfie camera yet. The metallic aluminum frame runs along the border of the phone where at the right side lies power button which has a strip on it which

helps to easily identify the power button when you are not looking at the phone. Also at the right side lies the hybrid SIM slot. To the left side of the phone lies volume rockers only. At the bottom of the phone lies Type-c USB port, speaker and most importantly a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The company has used inbuilt fingerprint sensor which is quite fast and accurate but what is more interesting is that the face unlock feature of the phone which is also very fast despite having the motorized front sensor.

Display

The display of Oppo Reno 2 is of 6.5 inches with the screen type of AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. The presence of the AMOLED screen is obvious under the phone of such price range. The color reproduction on screen was on point, bright, vivid and punchy. The viewing angles are amazing as the 20:9 aspect ratio offers wide viewing angles. The games and movies which we played/ watched on the screen were in complete super HD form. The screen resolution is of 1080x2400 pixels with 401 PPI density. The visibility of the screen is quite good as one can use it even under bright daylight. The selfie camera though has been moved out of the screen but still, there are sleek bezels visible. The screen is guarded by Corning Gorilla Glass 6 which is making the screen resistive against any kind of scratches.

Platform

The new Oppo Reno 2 is running on Color OS 6.1 on top of Android 9.0 Pie. The processor chosen to enhance the functioning of the new Oppo Reno 2 is Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 G processor. There are eight octa cores where two cores are clocked at 2.2 GHZ Kryo 470 Gold and rest six cores are clocked 1.8GHZ Kryo 470

Silver. The processor ran every application very smoothly despite their heavy configuration.

There was no glitch in multitasking and even in playing games. The power of the processor can be easily felt with the smooth touch interface which you can feel when you touch the display. The gaming experience is very good as well as there is a dedicated Game Space mode which automatically switches on when you play any games enhancing the gaming experience. The graphics of the big games like PUBG, Asphalt9 was on point with just minor adjustments in the graphic level. All games ran in top graphic quality as the Adreno 618 GPU powered the graphic content of the phone. The RAM size of the phone is of 8GB which assist the processor very well in handling the heavy workload. Very interestingly the internal storage of the phone is of

256GB which is quite an impressive amount of internal storage and can also be further expanded if a microsd card is used. The processor is no doubt very powerful but Oppo could have used a more powerful processor like SDM855 which could have made the new Oppo Reno 2 to completely take over this price segment.

Cameras

It is very hard to take the essence out of Oppo smartphones of not being tagged as a camera-centric phone which Vivo clearly says so about their smartphones. Oppo has always amused me from its camera capability since its entry in the Indian smartphone market. Oppo Reno 2 has evolved its sensor to 20X zoom from its predecessor which had 10X zoom which is one of the highlighting features of the phone. The rear sensor of Oppo Reno 2 is quite impressive as the images which we captured turned out to be brilliant with accurate color maintenance, no unwanted sharpness, very detailed with proper edge detection and very obviously very crispy and crystal clear. The AI feature of the phone turns out to be very handy reducing the graining effect. The images captured at night had very minimum noise effects and graining effects. The night shots captured by the phone are very good as they were very precise in maintaining the details and clarity at night plus the night mode of the rear camera surely helps to deliver cherishing images. All this magic is done by the quad-camera sensors of the phone where the primary sensor is of 48MP which is a Sony IMX586 sensor supporting PDAF, OIS and has an aperture of f/1.7 using a wide lens. The secondary sensor is a telephoto lens with 13MP and an aperture of f/2.4. The third sensor has an ultrawide lens and is of 8MP with an aperture of f/2.2. The fourth sensor is of 2 MP which acts as a depth sensor and has an aperture of f/2.4. The focus of the phone does get shaky when you increase the resolution to the fullest. The primary sensor by default is set at 12MP and you have to change the setting to turn the sensor into 48MP. The selfie camera of the new Oppo Reno 2 is quite stylish and has surely got the style to get the attention of the people. The fin-shaped selfie sensor pops out when you switch to selfie camera which is of 16MP with an aperture of f/2.0. The selfies captured at daytime has got the exact gist which selfie lovers seek. The selfies were very good with proper details, the color exposure, and edge detection. Very interestingly, the selfie sensor has the option of adding more light which means it has front flash which becomes very handy when you have to click selfies in low light conditions. The quality of selfies at night is compromised a bit in terms of clarity and proper color intactness.

Battery

The new Oppo Reno 2 is powered by 4,000mah battery. When tested the battery of the phone lasted a day easily with hours of game playing, watching movies, etc. There were some instances where the battery was losing power quickly but the charger of the phone has this covered up by VOOC Flash Charge

3.0. The fast charging charger quickly loads up the tank.

Conclusion

Oppo Reno 2 is an upgraded version of Reno 10X Zoom in terms of cameras in which triple lens setup has gone upto quad camera setup. The design is super awesome, clean, elegant and appealing. The glass finish at the back and front adds to the beauty of it. Display is immersive and vivid. The quad camera set is brilliant in majority situations especially the Ultra Dark mode is worth trying. The zoom functionalities are much on the lines of its last predecessor. The picture quality remains intact upto 5x but gradually drops when moved to 20x which is normal in any case. The rising shark-fin selfie camera gives pleasurable shots. The processor is handy enough to manage tasks but, at the same price point Oneplus 7 offers QS 855 chipset. Battery life is moderate when drips fast when put to heavy usage. At Rs 36,990, Oppo Reno

2 is must try for those who wants to flaunt a premium astonishing looking smartphone which is durable and opens a plethora of opportunities with quad camera setup. ■
