- haider@mymobile.co.in

The ongoing market culture of competition has surely been a treat for smartphone users which provides the users with a diverse range of options. The diverse range of smartphones in the market shows the healthy condition of the market which is providing space for every company to grow and flourish. Similarly, not very old in the Indian smartphone market realme has made name for itself within such a short period. The mantra has been very simple for the company which is to target its product towards highly demanded price range section by the customers. The recent trend in competition has witnessed a change in price range and realme has also joined the race to top the chart by emerging as one of the favorites and to do so it has chosen realme 5 Pro which is the latest launch of the company and will be taking on the likes of Redmi Note 7 Pro, Vivo Z1 Pro, Oppo K3 and many more of similar price range. So, let’s find out about realme 5 Pro in this review of ours.

Design

The new realme 5 Pro has been elegantly designed to capture the eyes of the users with crystal sparkling blue body and with its patterned rear side and prism effect it manages to do that very well. The patterned glossy rear side is a joy to look at plus it has

very less tendency of being slippery despite its glossy finish. The handling of the phone is easy as it does not have much bodyweight due to plastic body and its curvy body design allow easy grip on the phone. At the back of the phone, one could sport a fingerprint sensor and four rear camera sensors followed by an LED flash. At the front lies the 6.3 inches screen with a waterdrop notch.

The top side of the phone has secondary microphone whereas at the bottom lies a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-c port, and speaker outlet. At the right side of the phone lies the power button. The volume rockers are placed at the left side of the phone and also a triple-slot SIM tray lies at the left side which is capable of carrying dual SIM card and a microsd card at the same time.

The fingerprint sensor is very quick in response and the phone also has face unlock feature which works very well as well adding extra security.

Display

Having a big screen size is now the common requirement of every phone and realme 5 Pro also sports an impressive screen of size 6.3 inches.

The screen type is IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. The screen offers almost full view display looks but it is not as there are clear bezels and a waterdrop notch having selfie camera in it.

The visibility of the screen is very good as the colors on the screen are very vivid and bright making the screen visible in bright daylight. The color reproduced on-screen has good saturation levels. Playing games, watching movies, or reading word files is very easy as the screen has wide viewing angles which are due to the aspect ratio of the screen which is 19:5:9. The phone has a screen resolution of 1080x2340 pixels and has 409ppi density. The screen is being protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ and also to some extent the screen is splash resistant.

Platform

The operating system of realme 5 Pro is the latest android version which is Android 9.0 Pie and also it has clearly the genealogical linkage with Oppo as it is using Oppo’s Coloros 6 UI with slight customizations.

To take on the giants in smartphone market any competitive company has to have something powerful to offer in its product to attract the users and realme 5 Pro has chosen very wisely Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SOC processor to emerge out as one of the better performers while handling the tasks. There are eight octa cores where two cores are clocked at 2.3 GHZ Kryo 360 Gold and six cores are clocked at 1.7 GHZ

Kyro 360 Silver.

The processor surely handles any task with ease which we witnessed while testing the phone.

The processor did not break down in mid of any task no matter how many apps you are using at the same time. The graphics of games were also on top without too much compromise as the phone has integrated Adreno 616 graphics. The likes of PUBG, Asphalt Legend, and many other high requirement games ran smoothly at their normal graphic standards in the phone which was surely amazing but this part would not have been possible if the phone did not have the right RAM size to support this actions meaning the phone has amazingly incorporated 8GB RAM size in the new realme 5 Pro in such a price range which is giving the phone an upper hand over its competitors. The new realme 5 Pro is available in three

variants in terms of RAM and ROM size and the one which we got has 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage while the other two variants are available in 4GB/64GB, and 6GB/64GB of RAM and ROM size respectively. The possession of such RAM and ROM size is surely making the new realme 5 Pro as one of the favorites in the price segment where it is competing.

Cameras

The new realme 5 Pro is taking the competition to another level and it is evident by its most highlighting feature which is the presence of four rear camera sensors and out of the four sensors one sensor having Sony IMX586 sensor which was available in high priced smartphones only.

The cameras of the realme 5 Pro are surely attracting lots of attention and it should be doing that as well because it is capable of delivering images of high quality in every circumstance. The primary rear sensor is of 48MP with an aperture of f/1.8 with a wide lens. The second sensor is of 8MP with an aperture of f/2.2 with an ultrawide lens. The third sensor is dedicated macro camera of 2M with an aperture of f/2.4 and the fourth sensor is a depth sensor of 2MP with an aperture of f/2.4. The use of a 48MP camera disables the HDR which needs to be kept in mind while using it. The images captured at daylight were very detailed, clear and has right color saturation.

The use of wide camera though causes some distortion in the quality of the image and it could be seen easily when you try to zoom in as it loses details. The rear sensors do an amazing job but at night the quality of the images clearly fall which to me was quite a surprise. The graining and noise effects are clearly visible at night shots the moment to increase the resolution. The selfie camera, on the other hand, is of 16MP with an aperture of f/2.0 and has HDR and other modes. The selfie camera is quick to focus and you can adjust the AI according to your will before capturing any selfie. The selfie camera to me seemed very average not something very interesting like offered by Oppo, Vivo, Redmi, etc.

The daylight selfies were good and detailed but the night selfies were really not up to the expectation but it does do a decent job.

Battery

The possession of Type-c port is surely a beneficial factor in every phone as it allows the phone to osmosis the charge very quickly. The phone has fast charging capacity VOOC 3.0 but slow discharging rate as the 4,035mah battery of the phone lasts easily throughout the day with a single charge. We tested the battery capacity by playing games for hours and watching movies and it easily entertained throughout the day.

Conclusion

realme 5 Pro largely banks on its quad camera setup which is exciting and has lots of potential. The diamond cut design makes it stand out among the crowd, a full day battery is compatible to last and an efficient chipset remains in sync most of the time. The Coloros comes with bloatware. Overall, at Rs 13,990, realme 5 Pro is worth a deal maker in which it offers value for money propositions. You may also consider Mi A3, Motorola One Action and vivo Z1 Pro if you’re not satisfied with quad camera Sony IMX586 sensor. ■
