- haider@mymobile.co.in

Xiaomi has shown sheer dominance in the Indian smartphone market and has proven itself every time to be worthy of the demands of the customers and this statement does not arise from any assumptions, it is the result of my observation which I find in my daily life where most people are seen to be using smartphones from Xiaomi. The statement can be proven if it is displayed statistically; well that’s not our concern at the moment. Here, in this review will be talking about the latest launch of Xiaomi Mi A3 from Xiaomi which is aiming the mid-range price section that has been the hot spot of competition nowadays. So, let’s find out whether the new Xiaomi Mi A3 can add to the rhizomatic growth of Xiaomi by taking the mantle in its own hand to be the top competitor in mid-range section taking on the likes of its own sibling Redmi Note 7 Pro, and others like Vivo Z1 Pro, Realme 5 Pro, etc.

Design

Deviating from its predecessor the new Xiaomi Mi A3 is sporting a glassy look ditching the metal body frame. The body composition is of glass where there is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 at the back and the front side of the phone. The phone is sporting a bold unicolor look which is giving an aesthetic appeal to the phone plus a glossy rear surface is adding to the shine of the phone. To begin with, plus point of the new Xiaomi Mi A3, the phone sports a very compact body size which fits very comfortably in the

palm and does not require the assistance of another hand to perform tasks like dragging down the notification bar which we find in fancy bigscreened phones. The glass body of the phone has metallic rim running around the phone. The handling of the phone is very comfortable as it has reasonable body weight and curvy body corners which is making the phone very easy to hold and operate. At the rear side of the phones lies the vertically placed triple camera sensor bulged outwards a bit in a frame and just below the frame lies an LED flash. At the backside, one can see the brand name plus the android one logo showing the Xiaomi Mi A3 association with Android One. There is no physical fingerprint sensor rather the company has opted to go with an inbuilt display fingerprint sensor. Adding further to the security of the phone there is very fast and efficient face unlock feature as well. The front fascia of the phone is dominated by the screen with a dewdrop notch. To the left side of the phone lies the hybrid SIM tray whereas at the right side lies the power button and the volume rockers. The top side of the phone is sporting a 3,5 mm headphone jack and an IR emitter. At the bottom, if the phone lies dual speaker grilles and separating them apart is the Type-c USB port at the bottom of the phone.

Display

The new Xiaomi Mi A3 is fully geared up to take the lead in the competition which can be easily understood by the screen type of the phone. Unlike the latest Realme Pro which had HD+ screen, the new Xiaomi Mi A3 is possessing AMOLED display which just adds up to the advantage of the phone. The screen size of 6.01 inches feels sufficient enough to perform any task be it playing games, watching movies, etc. The AMOLED screen reproduces very bright, vivid and punchy colors which makes the viewing experience interesting. The screen visibility is also good as the screen is visible easily at daylight. The 19:5:9 aspect ratio of the phone provides wide viewing angles. The screen resolution of the phone is of 720x1560 pixels with 286 PPI density. The phone does not claim to be full view display as there are slim bezels on both sides and thick bezels at top and bottom of the display.

Platform

The phone is running on the latest Android OS which is Android 9.0 on top of Android One OS which is the interesting part to be noticed in the new Xiaomi Mi A3. The OS works very well and the smooth interface is the proof of that.

The processor plays a vital role in determining how the smartphone is going to perceive by the customers. Xiaomi has upgraded version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 to 665 to increase the power deliverance of the phone. The processor is very efficiently working as it managed to maintain the stability of the applications when indulged in heavy multitasking. There are eight octa cores present where four cores are clocked at 2.0 GHZ kyro 260 Gold and rest four cores are clocked at 1.8 GHZ Kyro 260 Silver. The cores manage to do a very fine job because it could be felt when using the phone because the touch interface remains smooth even when you are indulged in multiple tasks. The GPU on board is Adreno 610 which is giving high definition graphics when any game is played. The big

games like PUBG, Asphalt 9 with minor fall back in their actual graphics level ran smoothly without working up the processor too much though the phone does show symptoms of heating when we played games continuously for hours. The inclusion of 6GB RAM is quite an interesting and good move from the company as it will lure the users who want smooth and undisrupted usage of the applications. The RAM does support very well the processor as we did not find any stutter while using any applications or games. The ROM, on the other hand, is of 128 which is also an advantage point of the phone and can be further expanded with the help of microsd card.

Cameras

Xiaomi always keeps on mind the demands of the customers who just don’t want a powerful performing phone but also cameras capable of clicking stunning images. The trend of selfies does not seem to be getting low plus the powerful rear cameras which have created a new sphere of photographers which is increasing day by day. Keeping all these in mind the company has loaded powerful rear sensor and selfie camera in the new Xiaomi Mi A3. The phone has triple rear sensors who are Ai-driven where the primary sensor is of 48MP with an aperture of f/1.8 with a wide lens. There is no doubt that the 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor is something of great quality capable of producing highly defined and clear images but there is one disadvantage of not being able to use other modes when using 48MP mode and by default, the primary sensor is not set to 48MP resolution. The secondary sensor is of 8MP with an aperture of f/2.2 with an ultra-wide lens. The third sensor is of 2MP which acts as a depth sensor. The rear camera of Xiaomi Mi A3 is one of the best under the price range which it falls. The images captured at daytime were highly detailed, had proper color saturation, no oversaturation or unwanted warm color effects and were very crispy. There were no noise effect or graining effect noticed at daytime shots plus edge detection is also good. The images captured at night were brilliant as well with proper details, crispy with very less amount of noise effects. Graining was noticed when we increased the camera resolution to full but it was not something very prominent as we managed to capture good quality of images. The selfies captured from the 32 MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.0 were of extremely good quality and has the exact gist which the selfie lovers looks for in any smartphone. Selfies captured at both day and night were of brilliant quality and the AI helps you to set and beautify the looks of your face according to your desired details. Overall, when put in the competition of having powerful camera power the new Xiaomi could be seen having the lead as it truly stuns you with its ability to deliver images of high quality.

Battery

All the features of any phone become meaningful when there is sufficient power in the phone to use those features for long hours and cashing exactly on that the new Xiaomi is carrying battery power of 4,030mah. The battery capacity of the phone allows using every feature to fullest without the worry of too much power drainage. When tested, even after playing games for hours, watching movies, enjoying music, etc. does not cause the phone to pass out as it still managed to have the power to make you reach your home. The phone supports fast charging which charges up the phone very rapidly.

Conclusion

Xiaomi Mi A3 is such a smartphone that you do not want to miss. Design is super elegant, clean at the same time rugged with Corning 5 glass protection which makes it look awesome. The Googlebacked clean and stock OS is my personal favorite where you get rid of unwanted apps and that also equipped with Google security updates. QS 665 is fast and efficient. At Rs 12,999, Xiaomi Mi A3 could not be missed. ■
