Samsung launches Exynos 1080 as its first 5nm chipset

South Korean electronic­s behemoth Samsung has launched its 5nm-based next-generation midrange chipset for smartphone­s called exynos 1080. On the camera front, the exynos 1080 can support up to 200mp single camera or dual 32+32mp sensors. It can also handle videos that are shot in up to 4K resolution at 60fps. On the display front, the chipset can go 90Hz or Full Hd+ panels at up to 144Hz refresh rate. While not anything fancy for flagships, these are good numbers for a mid-range chip. The chipset uses an octa-core CPU configurat­ion with a triple cluster design where there are four cortexa78 cores sat next to cortex-a55 cores. Of these, the performanc­e cortex-a78 core runs at 2.8GHZ, while the other cluster of three cortex-a78s is clocked at 2.6GHZ. The chipsets are expected to arrive in early 2021, with Samsung already confirming that this exynos chipset will eventually debut on a Vivo smartphone.

According to the informatio­n, the patent includes a moving motor, camera placeholde­r, and electronic hardware to move the liquid lens. The new lens will primarily be used for the telephoto cameras, with Huawei also looking to launch other products that would take advantage of this technology. As per the report, the liquid lens technology is expected to be deployed for the telephoto camera first so that instead of moving the lenses, the module will alter the shape of the liquid through varying voltage so it focuses the light.

The addition of the dimensity 700 to mediatek’s dimensity family of 5G chips gives device makers a full suite of options for 5G smartphone models – from flagship and premium to mid-range and mass market devices – making 5G more accessible for consumers everywhere. Jc Hsu, corporate VP and Gm of mediatek’s Wireless communicat­ions business Unit, said, “With our expanded dimensity portfolio we’re bringing the latest 5G capabiliti­es to every smartphone tier so more people can enjoy 5G experience­s. The dimensity 700 has an impressive mix of 5G connectivi­ty features, advanced camera capabiliti­es like night shot enhancemen­ts and multiple voice assistant support, all in a super power-efficient design.” The dimensity 700 packs advanced connectivi­ty features including 5G carrier Aggregatio­n (2cc 5G-CA) and 5G dual SIM dual standby (dsds), giving users access to the fastest speeds and 5G-exclusive Voice over New radio (Vonr) services from either connection. On the processing power side, the chip integrates two Arm cortex-a76 big cores in its octa-core CPU and operates at up to 2.2GHZ.

Lava launches Flip feature phone at Rs 1,640 domestic handset brand Lava recently launched a feature phone called Flip, which comes with an iconic flip design, for just rs 1,640. The feature phone is available in two colours — red and blue — across outlets and on Flipkart and Amazon. The Lava Flip comes with a 2.4inch display along with a polycarbon­ate body and an expandable memory of up to 32Gb. The phone is military-grade certified and comes with a premium 360-degree transparen­t packaging. The Lava Flip supports dual SIM and is embedded with a 1,200mah Li-ion battery supported with the super-battery mode which lasts up to three days on a single charge. The phone features a VGA camera, blink call notificati­on Led on the top and also provides a provision of auto call recording. The device is equipped to support incoming texts in 22 languages and also enables users to type in seven languages, including english, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Gujarati and Punjabi. The other features of the phone include an Instant Torch, Wireless Fm with recording, number talker and contact icons.

Chinese company patents smartphone with octa-camera setup

Smartphone manufactur­ers are constantly

raising the bar and level of innovation with each passing year. A few years back smartphone­s only had a single camera. but in recent times, a triple and quad camera setup is all but common, especially in flagship models. Now, a chinese company might be pushing the bar even higher as it patents a smartphone with 8 cameras on the rear. According to a Letsgodigi­tal report, a chinese brand called Lens Technology recently filed a patent for a device with an octa-camera setup. For those unaware, Lens Technology is a brand not known for smartphone­s, but rather it supplies to other Oems like Apple, Samsung, and Huawei. The company has also supplied the display for the Apple Watch. As per the report, the patent shows some futuristic design for the smartphone, with a full body screen on the front, which also houses what appears to be a physical button, while no notch can be observed from the patented images. Arriving at its most notable aspect, the rear features a total of eight camera sensors, with two sensors on each corner of the smartphone. Furthermor­e, each of these pairs also houses an Led flash in between.

Vodafone Idea working with OEMS, lending companies to make smartphone­s affordable

Vodafone Idea’s marketing director Avneesh Khosla recently said the telco is working with original equipment manufactur­ers (Oems) and consumer finance companies to make smartphone­s affordable for its customers in India. Vodafone Idea also wants to ensure that smartphone­s reach its last-mile customer, Khosla said. Vodafone Idea, which recently rebranded as Vi, recently said that it entered into strategic partnershi­ps with key players in the areas of Learning & Upskilling, Health & Wellness, and business help to offer benefits to its customers. Khosla said that these strategic pacts with help the cashstrapp­ed telco to create new revenue streams from various sectors. The telco has partnered with upgrad, Udemy, Pedagogy, cure.fit, 1mg, mfine, eunimart, and others, and plans to onboard more partners under each of these areas to offer more digital products and services in the coming times.

Facebook rolls out Vanish Mode on Messenger, Instagram

Social media giant Facebook has rolled out Vanish mode on its messenger and Instagram services that will let users send text, photos and voice messages which will disappear once seen, and the chat window is shut down. According to a report by The Verge, currently, the Snapchat-inspired Vanish mode will work on individual chats and not group chats. Vanish mode is available for messenger in the US as well as some other countries. Some users may have already received Vanish mode in the chat settings on messenger. On Instagram, some elements of Vanish mode are already part of the core direct messaging feature set. As per the report, Vanish mode is similar in ways to messenger’s existing secret conversati­on mode that lets you enter an end-to-end encrypted chat that’s saved only on your device, although the new model is designed to delete anything sent forever once it’s been viewed.

Google Pay to remove payments on web app, will start charging transfer fee

Google Pay is reportedly set to kill the peerto-peer payments facility on its web app in January and is going to add a fee for instant money transfers. Google Pay offered the ability to manage payments as well as send money from both a mobile app or from pay. google.com. Now, Google has released a notice on the web app that notifies users that the site will no longer work from January next year. “Starting early in 2021, you won’t be able to use pay.google.com to send and receive money from other people. To send and receive money, use the new Google Pay app,” the company informed. While you can still manage payment methods on the web app, peer-to-peer payments will cease to exist. Google also clarified on a support page that the original Google Pay app will stop working in January, reports 9to5google.
