Tiktok beats Facebook to become world’s most downloaded app

According to a global analysis compiled by Nikkei Asia, the Chinese short-video platform tiktok has officially overtaken Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, and every other messaging platform to become the world’s most downloaded social media app. Until 2021, Facebook had held that title, as it has somehow managed to keep growing over the years up to a current accumulated net worth of over one thousand billion. As per the data, tiktok moved to the number one position on the chart of the most downloaded app worldwide in 2020 from its fourth position in 2019. tiktok notably managed to mark its growth in the midst of facing nationwide bans last year in markets including India. Furthermore, China’s Likee, a tiktok competitor has managed to grab a spot in the top 10 rankings for the most downloaded apps of the world.
