Youtube removes all public dislike counts on all videos

-

Youtube announced its decision to make the “dislike” count on all videos private across its platform. Given the extent, the decision is likely to be controversial that it impacts the visibility of the public into a video’s reception. but the Google-owned company believes the change will better protect its creators from harassment and reduce the threat of what it calls “dislike attacks” — essentially, when a group teams up to drive up the number of dislikes a video receives. The dislike button will still be there, but it will be for private feedback, rather than public shaming. Youtube also said that as part of this experiment, viewers could still see and use the dislike button. but because the count was not visible to them, we found that they were less likely to target a video’s dislike button to drive up the count.
