Essel Infra wins ₹17-bn freight corridor contract
Essel Infraprojects has recently bagged India's first Railway project under annuity mode involving ₹17.06 billion for the Eastern Freight Corridor connecting Howrah and Chennai main line. Essel Infra has emerged as the winner, ahead of IRCON International, an Indian Railways rail-under-bridge (RUB), foot-over-bridge (FOB), platform shelters, water supply and waste disposal system, drainage and bank protection.
Centre sanctions ₹5,000 cr for rail corridor in NE
The Central government has recently announced an investment of over ₹5,000 crore to construct a 12-km-long elevated railway corridor in the midst of Guwahati city, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Pranav Jyoti Sharma said, elaborating that the railway is currently undertaking the final location survey which started 2 months back and will be completed soon and a tender will be floated for execution of the work.
Kerala cracks ₹56,430 cr rail projects
Decks have been cleared for the preparation of detailed project report (DPR) of the viable projects for further development of railway corridor on a costsharing basis between Railways and State through Kerala Railway Development Corporation Ltd (KRDCL) entailing an investment of about ₹56,430 crore. The projects include the 510 km third and fourth railway line from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod, 181 km railway line from Thalassery via Mananthavady to Mysuru, 12 km rail connectivity from Balaramapuram to upcoming Vizhinjam International Deepwater seaport and 125.5 km Rapid Rail Transit System from Thiruvananthapuram to Chengannur.
Raxaul- Kathmandu rail line gains momentum
India and Nepal have recently agreed to initiate work on the Raxaul-Kathmandu rail line for which a team of Indian authorities has already conducted the first round of survey to connect the Indian rail with Kathmandu. The Nepali side appreciated the Indian government's support in the development of the India-Nepal Cross Border Rail Links to enhance people-topeople linkage and promote economic growth and development in the region.
Railway takes up ₹165.67 cr line in Uttarakhand
The Indian Railways is all set to launch two new rail lines in Uttarakhand at an investment of ₹167.67 crore including connecting Champawat district's Tanakpur town to Delhi and Nainital's Lalkuan township with southern India. GM, NorthEastern Railway, Rajiv Agarwal said adding that it will also construct under bridge at Lalkua-Kathgodam line and that the expansion of rail network in the state will boost tourism in a big way.
PMC clears twin metro routes expansion
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for two additional Metro routes. In this connection, the standing committee has given its nod to the proposal and has asked the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro) to prepare the DPR to steer clear the project. While work on the Vanaz-Ramwadi route is already in progress, the new routes will connect Ramwadi to Wagholi and Pune International Airport.
Chennai metro charts out ₹85,047 cr expansion
In an attempt to kick start the construction of the Phase-II of the metro project, CMRL begins the process of acquiring land required to build the ambitious 107.55km metro project at an investment of ₹85,047 crore. The project, which is awaiting Centre's nod, is aimed at linking the northern and southern suburbs with the city centre.
Railway to get first DFC trains on Independence Day
Indian Railways is set to get its first publiclyowned dedicated corridor for freight trains on August 15, when the country celebrating its 72nd Independence Day. The PM will dedicate the 190-km railway DFC line between Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and Phulera in Rajasthan falling under the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
Mahametro inks JV for ₹67,000 cr rapid rail network
Indian Railways has allocated a whopping sum worth ₹ 67,000 crore for the development of Sub urban rail network in Mumbai, which is used by one third of total Railway passengers in India. In this connection it has recently inked MoU with Indian Railways for introducing Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), which is going to be the first of its kind project in the country as it will connect adjoining towns of Nagpur.
NLC bets big on ₹4,761 cr track doubling
For Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), a mining subsidiary of state-owned Coal India, 201819 is a landmark year as its coal production is expected to breach the 100 million ton (mt) mark, from 93 mt in 2017-18 and now the company is betting big on the track doubling on the Katni-Singrauli and Singrauli-Ramna routes at an investment of ₹4,761 crore.
