Linux Mint 21.2 gets a beta release

The highly anticipate­d beta release of Linux Mint 21.2 ‘Victoria’ is now available for download. Serving as the stable series successor to last year’s Linux Mint 21.1, this release is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and runs on the Linux kernel 5.15.

Linux Mint 21.2 brings some exciting new features. Here are some of the standout highlights.

● Tap-to-click is now enabled by default on the login screen for a smoother experience.

● The Software Manager has a refreshed interface and includes Flatpaks for expanded software options.

● The popular image viewer, Pix, is updated to gThumb 3.12.2, enhancing the image viewing experience.

● New two-tone folder icons and full support for HEIF and AVIF image files offer more versatilit­y. ● Xreader can now preview Adobe Illustrato­r documents, adding to its functional­ity.

Linux Mint 21.2 includes Cinnamon 5.8, which brings several modest changes such as redesigned tool tips, accent colours in desktop notificati­ons, and new ‘Cinnamon Styles’ for easier and more consistent theming.

The main menu applet is now freely resizable. Users can easily adjust its size by grabbing the upper-right corner and dragging it to their desired dimensions. The release is available in three flavours: Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE.

One exciting addition to

Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon is a touchpad and touchscree­n gesture support, powered by the open source TouchEgg project. While not enabled by default, users can access gesture support by opening the Gestures panel if their hardware is compatible.
