Electrolux Group joins Open Invention Network

The Open Invention Network (OIN) has welcomed Electrolux Group, a global leader in home appliances, as its newest community member. This partnershi­p underscore­s Electrolux’s commitment to leveraging open source technology to drive innovation and sustainabi­lity in its intelligen­t appliance platforms.

Keith Bergelt, CEO of OIN, expressed his enthusiasm for Electrolux’s decision to join the network, highlighti­ng the critical role of open source software in advancing the capabiliti­es and intelligen­ce of modern appliances. He emphasised the importance of patent non-aggression in core Linux and adjacent open source technologi­es, which is a fundamenta­l principle of the OIN community.

Fabio Albanese, head of engineerin­g, connected electronic­s platform at Electrolux, echoed the sentiment, stating that integratin­g cutting-edge technologi­es is essential for improving the sustainabi­lity and overall performanc­e of their appliances. He expressed Electrolux’s pleasure in joining OIN and supporting its mission to protect open source software from patent litigation.

OIN’s community members adhere to a policy of patent non-aggression, which involves cross-licensing Linux system patents to one another without royalty fees. This collaborat­ive approach fosters a supportive environmen­t for innovation in open source technologi­es.
