Getting started with a career in Linux

-

I like your magazine very much. It has always helped me get the right information at the right time. Actually, LFY was the starting point of my Linux journey. Now I am so interested in the field of Linux development that I am keen to have a career in this field. So I am more than willing to take up jobs related to Linux administration and RHCSA certification. However, most of the job vacancies posted on the Web ask for experience. I have just completed my Btech in Computer Science last year. Given my qualifications, what are the chances of freshers securing a good job with a good pay? As a magazine dealing with Linux and open source, it would be great if you could pass on some useful knowledge in this regard.

— Venkatesh Kareti, kareti.venkatesh9@gmail.com ED: It really excites us to know that LFY was instrumental in your embarking on a Linux related career! Our best wishes are with you. It might benefit you to do a certification course in any Linux related field to enhance your skill set even further. However, at the moment, you can check out our FOSS Jobs section that we publish in our magazine. We also regularly carry interviews related to recruitment trends in the FOSS industry. These interviews feature expert opinions on diverse topics related to the required skill sets, the demand for freshers, on-the-job training programmes, etc, in the Linux domain. For your reference, here are the links to some of these interviews that have been carried in LFY in the recent past: http://bit.ly/wyhh6q http://bit.ly/z8prhp

It might also interest you to know that the current edition carries an article titled, 'It Pays To Be A Linux Expert'. This would give you an idea about the existing scenario in terms of remuneration for both freshers and experienced Linux professionals. We recommend you read this as well.

Really hope this helps. Do keep us posted on your Linux journey.
