Adobe launches Open Source Media Framework 2.0

Adobe has launched version 2.0 of its Open Source Media Framework (OSMF) for building feature-rich Flash video players. It is based on the company’s closed source Flash platform.

According to Kelash Kumar, product manager, Video Solutions Group, Adobe, The new version of OSMF 2.0 allows you to create even more engaging experiences for your audience. We worked with some of the largest content owners with the largest online video audiences and have reworked the inner workings of OSMF. In particular, we have made major changes to the Adaptive Bit ate (AB ) algorithm and the APIS for AB .

OSMF’S Adaptive Streaming provides two modes -- manual switching and automatic switching. As part of the changes, the company has improved the automatic switch operation, added more information to the Quality of Service (QOS) information and history enhanced the metric base, factory and repository and nally optimised the rule engine to better handle bandwidth and other computer resources.
