OpenSource For You

On changing the name of your magazine!

-

I was quite disappointed when I came to know that the magazine’s name had been changed from LINUX For You to Open Source For You. I understand that nothing else has changed except the name, but it still seems that something is missing. I agree that the magazine delivers a lot more than Linux, but I VoPeKoZ IeeO WKDW WKe orLgLnDO flDYoXr oI WKe PDgDzLne LV PLVVLng as you have removed the word ‘Linux’. Don't forget that LINUX For You has given lovers of open source a lot to cherish.

I feel you should have taken your readers' feedback in the form of a poll on Facebook. I can bet that the percentage for OSFY would be negligible compared to those rooting for LFY. All the best!

ED: Thank you for your candid feedback. We appreciate your sentiments too. This decision has not been easy for us either—but based on reader surveys (current readers and those who do not read LFY), we realised that we could make an impact on a much larger population of readers by switching the name.

We did do quite a few surveys on our Facebook page and repeatedly found more ‘likes’ than ‘dislikes’. Having said that, we do not want to ignore the sentiments of loyal readers who ‘disliked’ the change in name, but would like to retain their continued support for OSFY, which will have an increased number of pages (and soon perhaps an additional CD too) to reach out to the growing population that uses Linux' cousin— Android. We look forward to your continuing support.
