Bill Gates invests in open source!
Bill Gates may be the creator of Windows, the well-known proprietary operating system, but it seems even he is warming to the world of open source. According to reports, Gates has invested in a start-up called ResearchGate, which is a social network for scientists.
Gates is part of a group that includes Tenaya Capital, Dragoneer Investment Group and Thrive Capital, among others, which has raised $35 million in Series C financing with a mission to make scientific research more transparent.
ResearchGate, founded in 2008, is a social network for scientists, where they can post information about their work and findings via their profile page. This site has been often used by scientists to form alliances with others for research, which is not as easy as it sounds, Ijad Madisch, co-founder and CEO of ResearchGate, was quoted saying.
